The Database Performance Counter Disappears after Installing SP1

Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 will reach end of support on April 11, 2017. To stay supported, you will need to upgrade. For more information, see Resources to help you upgrade your Office 2007 servers and clients.

Applies to: Exchange Server 2007 SP1

This topic provides information about the name change for the database performance counter object in Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1).

Issue

To collect performance counter data for the database object when using Exchange Server 2007 RTM, you select the "Database" object. If you have Performance Monitor configured to use this object, and you apply Exchange 2007 SP1, data for the Database object will not be collected because the counter name has been changed to "MSExchange Database".

Cause

In Exchange Server 2007 SP1, the name of the database performance counter object in Performance Monitor has been changed.

The name of the performance counter object in Exchange Server 2007 RTM is “Database”.

The name of the performance counter object in Exchange Server 2007 SP1 is “MSExchange Database”.

This is the expected behavior in Exchange 2007 SP1.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, you must select “MSExchange Database” object instead of “Database” object in order to collect the same data in Exchange 2007 SP1.
