Monitoring and Reporting

Welcome to Monitoring and Reporting for the Microsoft Solution for Hosted Messaging and Collaboration version 4.0 . This section provides information about using Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 to fulfill the monitoring component of the Microsoft Solution for Hosted Messaging and Collaboration . Though optional, if used, MOM provides one part of the foundation from which you can leverage Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SRS), to produce reports based on your Hosted Messaging and Collaboration deployment. Consider adding MOM and SRS to your infrastructure to take advantage of the data collection, storage, and pre-built reporting components which include customized hosting-centric management packs that are part of this solution.

Hosted Messaging and Collaboration Management Packs

One of the key messaging features that have been customized for hosters is the set of Hosted Messaging and Collaboration Management Packs. This set of management packs is designed to help you deploy MOM with rules for monitoring core platform servers in one to two business days. The processing rule groups imported with these management packs allow you to monitor:

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Base Operating System
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2007
  • Active Directory directory service events, alerts, and performance
  • Microsoft SQL Server events, alerts, and performance
  • Microsoft Provisioning System (MPS) events, alerts, and performance
  • DNS events, alerts, and performance
  • Microsoft Windows Network Load Balancing

These management packs allow rapid deployment of MOM without the need for you to complete the lengthy process of sorting through dozens of enterprise-oriented rules and alerts you do not need. Instead, you can quickly deploy MOM and start monitoring servers with a minimum number of alerts.
