Incoming and outgoing e-mail for Windows SharePoint Services cannot be configured

Problem   Incoming and outgoing e-mail messages from Windows SharePoint Services cannot be configured.

Features affected   Incoming and outgoing e-mail messages from Windows SharePoint Services to Exchange Server 2007 are affected. This includes e-mail alerts from document libraries and mail-enabled security groups that you want to archive in the Windows SharePoint Services document libraries.

Solution   To resolve this issue, you must configure Windows SharePoint Services.

To configure Windows SharePoint Services

  1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Administrative Tools, and then click SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration.

  2. Click Incoming E-mail Settings, click Configure Incoming E-mail Settings, and then do the following:

    1. In the Enable Incoming E-mail section, for Enable sites on this server to receive email, click Yes.

    2. For Settings mode, click Advanced.

    3. In Directory Management Service, for User Sharepoint Directory Management, click No.

    4. Iin the Incoming E-mail Server Display Address section, for Email server display address, clickcompanyweb.

    5. In the E-Mail Drop Folder section, for Email drop folder, type c:\inetpub\mailroot\drop, and then click OK.

  3. Click Start, click All Programs, click Internet Explorer, and then, in the Internet Explorer address bar, type http://companyweb.

  4. In the quick launch bar, in the Sites section, if there is an Archived E-Mails link, do the following:

    1. Click Archived E-Mails.

    2. Click Site Actions, and then click Site Settings.

    3. In the Site Administration section, click Delete this site.

  5. Click Site Actions, click Create, and then click Sites and Workspaces.

  6. On the New SharePoint Site page, enter the following information:

    • In Title, type Archived E-Mails or another title that you prefer.

    • In Description, type a description.

    • In URL name, type EmailArchive. This is case-sensitive, and you cannot customize it.

    • In Template Selection, click Document Workspace. This is not customizable.

    • In User Permissions, type Use unique permissions. This is not customizable.

    • You can also change the following default settings without impacting the functionality: Display this site on the Quick Launch of the parent site? (Yes); Display this site on the top link bar of the parent site? (No); Use the top link bar from the parent site? (No).

  7. Click Create.

  8. On the Set Up Group for this Site page, do the following:

    1. For all options, select Use an existing group.

    2. Select CompanyWeb Visitors for Visitors to this Site, CompanyWeb Members for Members of this Site, and CompanyWeb Owners for Owners of this Site, and then click OK.

  9. Click Start, click All Programs, click Administrative Tools, and then click SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration.

  10. In Administrator Tasks, click Outgoing e-mail settings, and then click Configure Outgoing E-Mail Settings.

  11. Use the following settings: In Outbound SMTP server select SharepointSMTPServer; in From address type CompanyWebAdmin@<Domain>.local, where <Domain> is the name of your domain; in Reply-to address type CompanyWebAdmin@<Domain>.local, where <Domain> is the name of your domain; in Character set select 65001.

  12. Configure Windows SharePoint Services for outgoing e-mail messages as follows:

    1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Administrative Tools, and then click SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration.

    2. Click Outgoing e-mail settings, and then click Configure Outgoing e-mail settings.
