The Exchange Administrators security groups cannot be configured

Problem   The Exchange Administrators security groups cannot be configured.

Features affected   The messaging component of Windows SBS 2008 may not function successfully.

Solution   You must manually add Domain Admins to the Exchange Organization Administrators security group.

Important

Pre-requisite task   Before you continue, ensure that Exchange Server 2007 is installed. For instructions about how to install Exchange Server 2007, contact Microsoft Product Support.

To add Domain Admins to the Exchange Organization Administrators security group

  1. Click Start, click Administrative Tools, and then click Active Directory Users and Computers.

  2. In the User Account Control window, click Continue.

  3. Double-click <DomainName>, double-click Microsoft Exchange Security Groups, and then double-click Exchange Organization Administrators.

  4. On the Exchange Organization Administrators Properties page, click the Members tab, and then click Add.

  5. In the Select Users, Contacts, Computers, or Groups window, type Domain Admins, and then click OK.

  6. In the Exchange Organization Administrators Properties page, click OK.

  7. To fix permissions, do the following:

    1. Click Start, in the Search field type adsiedit.msc, and then in the quick launch pane click adsiedit.msc.

    2. In the User Account Control window, click Continue.

    3. In the ADSI Edit console, click Action, and then click Connect to.

    4. On the Connection Settings page, in Select a well known Naming Context, select Configuration, and then click OK.

    5. Double-click Configuration [ServerName].

    6. Double-click CN=Configuration,DC=<domain name>,DC=local.

    7. Double-click CN=Services.

    8. Double-click CN=Microsoft Exchange.

    9. Right-click CN=First Organization, and then click Properties.

    10. On the CN=First Organization Properties page, click the Security tab, and then click Add.

    11. In the Select Users, Contacts, Computers, or Groups window, type SYSTEM, set the Full Control permissions to Full Control, and then click OK.
