Configuration Manager 2007 Integration with Operations Manager 2007

Applies To: Operations Manager 2007 R2, Operations Manager 2007 SP1, System Center Configuration Manager 2007, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP1, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2, System Center Operations Manager 2007

Configuration Manager 2007 integrates with the Operations Manager console through Operations Manager console tasks that launch Configuration Manager Administrator console components.

It also supports enabling maintenance mode on Configuration Manager clients running the Operations Manager 2007 Agent during software distribution and software update program executions. Maintenance mode is also enabled during the site backup, but this is not configurable.

Operations Manager 2007 Console Tasks

Configuration Manager 2007 Administrator console tasks require Configuration Manager 2007 Administrator console to be installed on the same computer as the Operations Manager 2007 Operations console. The SYSTEM Environment variable SMS_ADMIN_UI_PATH needs to be defined as the path to the folder containing the Configuration Manager 2007 console program. For more information about setting system environment variables, see the system environment variable Web page (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=92316).

The following Configuration Manager 2007 tasks can be launched from the Operations Manager console.

Maintenance Mode for Configuration Manager 2007

The System Center Configuration Manager 2007 supports maintenance mode for Operations Manager 2007 with its Software Distribution and Software Updates features. By placing the MOM Agent into maintenance mode, alerts can be suppressed on computers running the Configuration Manager client.

When Configuration Manager 2007 distributes software to computers, it is often necessary to temporarily disable Operations Manager rule-based alerts generated by the target computer. For example, deploying hotfixes and security patches to servers may require shutting down threads and services. If threads or services on these servers are monitored by a monitoring pack, numerous Operations Manager alerts may be generated, overloading the Operations Manager server.

The Disable MOM alerts while this program runs check box suspends Operations Manager alerts until the distributed software has finished. The Configuration Manager 2007 administrator can set this check box in the Configuration Manager package program properties. Setting this option suppresses Operations Manager alerts for all monitoring packs that target the client computer while the client computer is executing that program. The maximum allowed run time is used as the timeout for the maintenance mode duration.
