Migrate Windows Server Update Services Data and Settings

Updated: January 22, 2009

Applies To: Windows SBS 2008

Note

This is an optional task. If you did not change the Windows Server Update Services default settings on the Source Server, Update Services on the Destination Server will, over time, reach the same level of update compliance, update approvals, and computer group membership as the Source Server.

Note

You can migrate Update Services data only if the source and destination versions are the same.

To migrate Windows Server Update Services, you must export software updates and metadata from the Source Server, and then import them to the Destination Server.

  1. Run the Server Cleanup Wizard

  2. Set up the Update Services replica server

  3. Replicate the Update Services database

  4. Verify that the replication is successful

  5. Make the Destination Server the stand-alone Update Services server

  6. Verify Update Services Computer Groups

For more information about configuring and using Update Services, see “Managing Software Updates in Windows Small Business Server 2008” at the Microsoft Web site https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=130661.
