Evaluate the health of the Source Server

Download and install critical and security updates

Installing critical and security updates on the Source Server can help protect your network while you are migrating to an updated version of Windows SBS 2008 and can help assure a successful migration.

To synchronize the server with the latest updates

  1. Open the Windows SBS Console.

  2. In the navigation bar, click the Security tab, and then click Updates.

  3. Verify that there are no updates with errors, and then click Synchronize now to synchronize with the Microsoft Updates Web site.

  4. After the synchronization finishes, approve any updates for the Source Server if Update Services is not configured to automatically approve updates for the server.

  5. Verify that all updates are installed without errors.

Check the System Health reports for critical errors

You can generate System Health Reports from the Windows SBS Console.

To generate a system health report

  1. Open the Windows SBS Console.

  2. On the navigation bar, click the Reports tab.

  3. In the Tasks pane, click Generate report.
