You must install Exchange 2000 Service Pack 3 before upgrading

Windows Small Business Server 2003 Setup cannot continue unless Exchange 2000 Service Pack 3 is installed. During Setup, Exchange 2000 is upgraded to Exchange Server 2003. Upgrading to Exchange Server 2003 requires that Exchange 2000 Service Pack 3 first be installed.

You must cancel Setup, and then install the service pack. After installing the service pack, restart Setup.

Before installing a service pack, you should first back up your server. For information about backing up Exchange data, see the “Backing Up Exchange Data” section of the white paper entitled “Backup and Recovery for Small Business Server 2000” at the Microsoft TechNet Web site (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=12282).

To install Exchange 2000 Service Pack 3, you must first be running Windows 2000 Service Pack 3. However, it is recommended that you install Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 from Disc 3 or the DVD (if available).

To install Windows 2000 Service Pack 4

  1. Disconnect your Internet connection device from the Internet. However, do not disconnect your server from the Internet connection device.

  2. Disable any real-time antivirus software that you have running, as they may cause problems while running Setup.

  3. Insert Windows Small Business Server 2003 Disc 3 or the DVD (if available) into the drive.

  4. Click Start, and then click Run.

  5. In Open, type the path to Update.exe.

    1. If you are using a CD, type D:\SBS\Clientapps\Win2k_SP4\i386\Update.exe, where D is the letter of your drive.
    2. If you are using a DVD, type D:\CD3\SBS\Clientapps\Win2k_SP4\i386\Update.exe, where D is the letter of your drive.
  6. Follow the instructions to complete Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 Setup.

To install Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 3 by downloading from the Web

  1. Download the service pack for the Service Pack 3 for Exchange 2000 and Exchange 2000 Enterprise Server at the Microsoft Web site (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=16550).

Note

If you have disconnected your Internet connection in preparation for completing Setup, you must reconnect it.

  1. Disconnect your Internet connection device from the Internet. However, do not disconnect your server from the Internet connection device.

  2. Follow the instructions provided on the Web site for installing the service pack.

After Windows Small Business Server 2003 Setup is complete, enable any real-time antivirus software you disabled for Setup.
