Reset a user's password

Using Server Management

To complete this procedure, you must be logged on as a member of the Domain Admins security group.

  1. Open Server Management.
  2. In the console tree, click Users.
  3. In the details pane, select a user account, and then click Change Password.
  4. Type and confirm the new password.
  5. Select or clear the User must change password at next logon check box, and then click OK.

Notes

  • To open Server Management, click Start, and then click Server Management.
  • This procedure enables you to reset the password for an individual user account.

Using Server Management for Power Users

To complete this procedure, you must be logged on as a member of the Domain Power Users security group.

  1. Open Server Management for Power Users.
  2. Click Users.
  3. Select a user account, and then click Change Password.
  4. Type and confirm the new password.
  5. Select or clear the User must change password at next logon check box, and then click OK.

Notes

  • To open Server Management for Power Users, click Start, and then click Server Management. If you are a member of the Domain Admins group and want to open Server Management for Power Users, click Start, click Run, and then type: %systemdrive%\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\SmallBusinessServer\Administration\mysbsconsole.msc
  • This procedure enables you to reset the password for an individual user account.
  • Power users cannot change Administrator passwords.
