Configure CPU resources for virtual machines

To configure CPU resources for virtual machines

  1. Open the Administration Website.
  2. In the navigation pane, under Virtual Server, click Resource Allocation.
  3. For each virtual machine, configure the following items as necessary, and then click OK:
    • In Relative Weight, type the relative weight to assign to this virtual machine.
    • In Reserved Capacity (% of one CPU), type the minimum amount of CPU resources to allocate to this virtual machine. Even if the physical computer has multiple CPUs, specify the percentage of a single CPU to assign to this virtual machine.
    • In Maximum Capacity (% of one CPU), type the maximum amount of CPU resources to allocate to this virtual machine. Even if the physical computer has multiple CPUs, specify the percentage of a single CPU to assign to this virtual machine.

Important

Only the virtual machines for which you have permissions appear on this page, and only the resources allocated to them are included in the figures for Total Capacity Reserved and Available Capacity Remaining. This means that you can inadvertently over-allocate CPU resources to the virtual machines listed on this page and prevent other virtual machines from turning on. If you do not have permissions for all of the virtual machines configured on this instance of Virtual Server, we strongly recommend that you ask your Virtual Server administrator for assistance before allocating CPU resources.

Note

To perform this procedure, you must have the appropriate permissions. If you do not have the appropriate permissions, you will either receive an error message or you will not be able to view certain menu items and options described in this procedure. To change your permissions, contact your Virtual Server administrator. For more information, see Securing Virtual Server. For instructions on opening the Administration Website, see "Open the Administration Website" in Related Topics. To reorder virtual machines in the list, click the title of the column by which you want to reorder them. For example, to order virtual machines by reserved capacity, click Reserved Capacity (% of one CPU).
