Hosting an Internet Web site

It is recommended that you do not to host your Internet Web site on your computer running Microsoft® Windows® Small Business Server 2003. The server is a domain controller and provides all the services to your network. Therefore, to minimize the resource impact of hosting a Web site, it is recommended that you host your Web site either on a second server in your network, or at your Internet service provider (ISP).

If you still want the server to host your company's Internet Web site on Windows Small Business Server 2003, you must complete the following requirements:

  • Create a basic business card Web site. A business card Web site provides basic information about your company, such as contact information and company history. It is recommended that you use Microsoft® Office FrontPage® to create a business card Web site. If your version of Windows Small Business Server includes FrontPage 2003, install one copy to the server or a client computer. Caution
    • If you have an existing Web site, it is recommended that you create a backup of your server, copy the files for your existing Web site to the default Web site in IIS, and then test that you can access services on your Web server. If you cannot access the Web services, then you can restore your server using the backup.
  • Log on with an Administrator account.
  • Allow access to your Internet Web site by using the Configure E-mail and Internet Connection Wizard. For more information about how to allow access to your Internet Web site, see Allow access to Web services on the server.
