Remove the following Exchange components before upgrading

Windows Small Business Server 2003 Setup cannot continue because one or more of the following Exchange 2000 Server components prevents the upgrade to Exchange Server 2003:

  • Microsoft Exchange MSMail Connector
  • Microsoft Exchange Connector for Lotus cc:Mail
  • Microsoft Exchange Instant Messaging Service
  • Microsoft Exchange Key Management Service
  • Microsoft Exchange Chat Services

You must cancel Setup, remove all Exchange components listed on the Setup Requirements page, and then restart Setup.

To remove either the Microsoft Exchange MSMail Connector or the Microsoft Exchange Connector for Lotus cc:Mail
  1. Click Start, click Run, and then type Control.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • In Windows 2000 Server, click Add/Remove Programs.
    • In Windows Server 2003, click Add or Remove Programs.
  3. Click Microsoft Small Business Server 2000, and then click Change/Remove.

  4. Follow the instructions until you reach the Component Selection page.

  5. On the Component Selection page, do the following:

    1. Under Action for Microsoft Exchange 2000, click the drop-down list, and then click Change.
    2. Under Action for Microsoft Exchange Messaging and Collaboration Services, click the drop-down list, and then click Change.
    3. Under Action for the connector that you need to remove, click the drop-down list, and then click Remove.
  6. Click Next, and then follow the instructions.

noteNote
After completing Setup, you can reinstall Exchange connectors using the Exchange Installation Wizard. For more information about installing Exchange connectors after completing Setup, click Start, and then click Help and Support.
To remove the Microsoft Exchange Instant Messaging Service
  1. Click Start, click Run, and then type Control.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • In Windows 2000 Server, click Add/Remove Programs.
    • In Windows Server 2003, click Add or Remove Programs.
  3. Click Microsoft Small Business Server 2000, and then click Change/Remove.

  4. Follow the instructions until you reach the Component Selection page.

  5. On the Component Selection page, do the following:

    1. Under Action for Microsoft Exchange 2000, click the drop-down list, and then click Change.
    2. Under Action for Microsoft Exchange Instant Messaging Service, click the drop-down list, and then click Remove.
  6. Click Next, and then follow the instructions.

Exchange Server 2003 does not include instant messaging. If you would like to use instant messaging after Setup is complete, use Windows Messenger. For more information, see the Windows Messenger Web site (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=14701).
To remove the Microsoft Exchange Key Management Service
  1. Click Start, click Run, and then type Control.

  2. Do one of the following:

    1. In Windows 2000 Server, click Add/Remove Programs.
    2. In Windows Server 2003, click Add or Remove Programs.
  3. Click Microsoft Small Business Server 2000, and then click Change/Remove.

  4. Follow the instructions until you reach the Component Selection page.

  5. On the Component Selection page, do the following:

    1. Under Action for Microsoft Exchange 2000, click the drop-down list, and then click Change.
    2. Under Action for Microsoft Exchange Messaging and Collaboration Services, click the drop-down list, and then click Change.
    3. Under Action for Microsoft Exchange Key Management Service, click the drop-down list, and then click Remove.
  6. Click Next, and then follow the instructions.

noteNote
Exchange Server 2003 no longer includes Key Management Service for securing messaging. In Exchange Server 2003, messaging is secured using the public key infrastructure (PKI) provided by Windows Server 2003. After Setup is complete, to find more information about using key certificates with Exchange Server 2003, click Start, click Help and Support, click Exchange server, and then search for “key certificates.” If your server is not a domain controller, you must also remove Certificate Services as this will prevent Active Directory from being installed. Active Directory is a required component for Windows Small Business Server 2003. For more information, see the Certificate Services is installed on this computer requirement that is listed on the Setup Requirements page. You can secure Outlook® Web Access connections using the Configure E-mail and Internet Connection Wizard. The wizard provides options to enable Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) for Outlook Web Access connections and to require that connections use 128-bit encryption. After Setup is complete, to find more information, click Start, click Help and Support, and then search for “Configure E-mail and Internet Connection Wizard.”
To remove the Microsoft Exchange Chat Services
  1. Click Start, click Run, and then type Control.

  2. In Windows 2000 Server, double-click Add/Remove Programs.

    In Windows Server 2003, double-click Add or Remove Programs.

  3. Click Microsoft Small Business Server 2000, and then click Change/Remove.

  4. Follow the instructions until you reach the Component Selection page.

  5. On the Component Selection page, do the following:

    1. Under Action for Microsoft Exchange 2000, click the drop-down list, and then click Change.
    2. Under Action for Microsoft Exchange System Management Tools, click the drop-down list, and then click Change.
    3. Under Action for Microsoft Exchange Chat Services, click the drop-down list, and then click Remove.
  6. Click Next, and then follow the instructions.
