Adding a License Key to a RIS Image

Applies To: Windows Compute Cluster Server 2003

Adding a License Key to an Image

After installing Remote Installation Services (RIS) on the head node and creating one or more installation images, add a license key to the image using the Manage Images Wizard. At the same time, you can change or update the image description.

In order to simplify RIS installation, your OEM may provide a Windows Product Key embedded in the Windows Server 2003 recovery media provided to you with your operating system. This product key will allow you to install multiple operating systems from that hardware manufacturer via RIS without the need to activate each operating system or provide a unique key on each operating system. You can use the embedded product key only under the following conditions:

  • The operating system being imaged is from the hardware manufacturer that provided your OEM recovery media.

  • You created your RIS images based on the OEM recovery media.

To add a license key to a RIS installation image

  1. From the RIS pane of the To Do List, click Manage Images, and then click Next.

  2. On the Choose Action page of the wizard, select Modify Image Configuration. Then click Next.

  3. On the Select Image page, use the Select Image drop-down box to choose an existing image to update. Then click Next.

  4. On the Modify Image page, you can change the image description and the image license key.
