Compute Cluster Network Topology: Scenario 5
Applies To: Windows Compute Cluster Server 2003
All nodes only on public network
In this cluster topology scenario, all cluster nodes have a single network interface, attached to the public network. All traffic, including intra-cluster, MPI, and public traffic, is carried over the public network. This maximizes access to the compute nodes by users and developers on the public network.
Considerations when using this topology
Easy access to compute nodes by users on the public network.
Access of resources on public network faster by individual compute nodes.
Well-suited to applications development and debugging because all cluster nodes are connected to the public network.
Network Configuration
There is no requirement for Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) on the head node in this scenario. All nodes receive networking services, including DHCP and DNS, from servers on the public network.
The Automated Addition method of adding compute nodes cannot be used in this cluster topology because no private network exists.
