To Install RMS with Service Pack 2

To perform this procedure, you must be logged on locally to the administration Web site with a domain user account that is a member of the Administrators group. Members of the Domain Admins group can also perform this procedure. As a security best practice, consider using Run as to perform this procedure.

The computer on which you are installing RMS must be a member server in a domain, or it must be a domain controller. You cannot deploy RMS on a stand-alone server in a workgroup.

Important

Do not provision RMS on any other servers until you have completed both the installation and provisioning of the first server in the root cluster. For instructions, see To Provision the First Server in the Root Cluster, To Provision the First Server in a Licensing-only Cluster, or To Add a Server to a Cluster later in this subject.

Important

If you are upgrading from a previous version of RMS, you must install RMS with Service Pack 1 (SP1) before installing RMS with Service Pack 2 (SP2).

Installing RMS with Service Pack 2

To install RMS with Service Pack 2

  1. Log onto computer as a member of the Administrators group.

  2. Download RMS Server with SP2 to the local hard drive from the Microsoft Download Center (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=76880).

  3. Start the installation by double-clicking WindowsRightsManagementServicesSP2-KB917275-Server-ENU.exe.

  4. When the Welcome dialog box appears, review the list of software that is to be installed, and then click Next.

  5. In the License Agreement dialog box, review the agreement, select I agree, and then click Next.

  6. In Folder, accept the default folder or specify a new folder, and then click Next.

  7. In the Confirm Installation dialog box, click Install to start the installation.

  8. When the Installation Complete dialog box appears, click Close.

    Note

    If an "Application is restarting" error message appears, refresh the Global Administration page in your Web browser.
