Description

Agent Manager Events Spreadsheet (AllAMEvents.xls)

This Microsoft Excel spreadsheet extracts Agent Manager events from the MOM database related to agent installation.

Event Logging tool (LogEvent.exe)

This command-line tool logs events in the application log of a remote computer. You can incorporate this tool into scripts and batch files to test your MOM environment. You can also use the absence of an automatically generated event on a remote agent to alert administrators to a possible problem.

EventSim.exe

The EventSim tool replays standard Windows 2000 event logs back into Windows 2000 event logs at different rates to test the event rules in MOM Management Packs.

This tool is included in the MOM Resource Kit at http://www.microsoft.com/mom/downloads/reskit/default.asp.

Exchange 2000 Management Pack Configuration tool (ex2kmpsnapin.msi)

This tool simplifies the customization of certain Exchange 2000 Management Pack features for your specific Exchange deployment. This utility and additional information is located on your

MOM SP1 product CD in the Support Tools directory.

Extensible Performance Counter List tool (ExCtrLst.exe)

Use this tool to disable performance counters for a specific service. You can find this tool in the Windows 2000 Server Resource Kit. MOM Software Development Kit (SDK2)

The MOM SDK is at http://www.microsoft.com/mom/downloads/sdk/default.asp.

OSQL.exe

The osql utility is a Microsoft Win32 command-line program for immediate, interactive running of Transact-SQL statements and scripts. For more information, see http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/coprompt/cp_osql_1wxl.asp.

RunMOMScript.exe

The MOM RunMOMScript utility is a command-line program for testing and troubleshooting MOM script syntax and logic errors before they are deployed into production. This tool is included in the Microsoft Operations Manager 2000 Resource Kit at http://www.microsoft.com/mom/downloads/reskit/default.asp.

Server Info tool (SrvInfo.exe)

Use this command-line tool to remotely gather information from a server, including:

  • Service status.

  • System uptime.

  • Domain membership.

  • CPU information.

  • Drive size and space availability.

  • Installed Hotfixes.

For example, you can use this tool to check the status of the OnePoint service and to find out when the last restart occurred.

Service Controller tool (SC.exe)

Use this command-line tool to communicate with, test, and debug services. You can use this tool to manage agent services remotely.

SNMP Browser tool (SnmpUtil.exe)

Use this tool to verify that the central computer is receiving SNMP traps. You can find the SNMP Browser tool in the Windows 2000 Server Resource Kit. SQL Enterprise Manager

SQL Server Enterprise Manager is the primary administrative tool for Microsoft SQL Server™ 2000, and provides a Microsoft Management Console–compliant user interface so that users can:

  • Configure all SQL Server options for each registered server.

  • Create and administer all SQL Server databases, objects, logins, users, and permissions in each registered server.

  • Define and run all SQL Server administrative tasks on each registered server.

To launch SQL Server Enterprise Manager, select the Enterprise Manager icon in the Microsoft SQL Server program group.

SQL Query Analyzer

Use this tool to run queries against the OnePoint database. It is recommended that you do not directly access the MOM SQL Server database. You can use this tool to create and run scripts, stored procedures, triggers and queries against the SQL Server database.

You can install this tool from the SQL Server 2000 product CD by selecting the option to install tools.

Unlodctr.exe and Lodctr.exe

Use these tools to unload and then reload an existing performance counter DLL. For example, you can use these tools to troubleshoot event 1008 on agent computers. For more information about troubleshooting event 1008, see Chapter 8, "MOM Agent Management." These tools are included with Windows 2000. For more information about using these tools, open a command-prompt window and use the following commands:

  • Unlodctr /?

  • Lodctr /?

WMI SDK

Use the WMI SDK to develop applications to monitor and manage services in the enterprise. The WMI SDK is available on the MSDN site at http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads/.
