In the absence of Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server, you may have used the Internet connection sharing (ICS) or network address translation (NAT) features of Windows 2000 to access the Internet. ISA Server can be used instead of NAT or ICS, replacing and enhancing its function in the organization. ISA Server provides the connectivity enabled by NAT or ICS and adds sophisticated security and caching features.

Warning

  • Do not run ICS on the computer running ISA Server.
