Code 43: Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems

Applies To: Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista

Device Manager displays the following message in the Device Properties dialog box, on the General tab, in the Device Status text box:

Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

Diagnosis

A device driver notified the operating system that the device failed.

Resolution

  2. Run the diagnostic tool Hardware devices are not working or are not detected in Windows on the Microsoft Fix it Center.

Printer error code 43

Code 43 for USB mouse Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop
Before trying any of the other tips, first see if this works for you. It's quick and worked like a charm for me, but only after trying all the other advice and wasting 9 long hours! :( <div><br /></div><div><ol><li>Go to Device Manager - Start Menu &amp;gt; Control Panel &amp;gt; Device Manager</li><li>Browse for any device warning errors under Universal Serial Bus Controllers with a yellow exclamation point. (Mine was on one of the USB Root Hubs)</li><li>Right click on any device with the error and select "uninstall"</li><li>Right click and select "Scan for Hardware Changes"</li><li>Ensure all USB Root Hubs are clear of any warnings/errors</li><li>Shut down Windows</li><li>Turn off laptop and unplug AC power</li><li>Remove battery and let sit minimum of 10 minutes. (I left mine overnight - too tired!)</li><li>Reinsert battery</li><li>Plug in AC</li><li>***Insert USB device - I did before turning on laptop</li><li>Power up - boot Windows and it should straighten out all the USB problems and recognize the mouse immediately</li></ol> If this doesn't work, then you can continue on with more time consuming troubleshooting. Code 43 Error
I have also been suffering from this error in trying to connect an optical drive to a Toshiba Z830. Appreciating that most of the answers out there appear to come down to power off and remove battery this is impossible as this battery is not user removable or replaceable. I also dont want to start hacking into the underside of a new laptop with 2 years warranty left on it. <div>Any other ideas out there would be very welcome. thanks</div>

Code 43 on Dell Laptop - display goes dark
I have no idea yet how it happened, but all the sudden my laptop went dark - even no sign of life from the display upon reboot. I suspected the MB or the LCD to be broken, but that was not the case. <div>The Dell D620 with a nVidia Quadro NVS110M is running on Windows 7/32bit. </div><div>I connected the external monitor, which came up during the boot process - although with some artefacts (stripes) on the screen.</div><div>In the Control Panel &amp;gt; System &amp;gt; Devices the nVidia display popped up with a malfunction and error code 43. Since the forum here was fairly useless to find out what code 43 is, I simply deleted the graphics card from the devices and rebooted.</div><div>This did solve it (or was it coincidence?). The laptop LCD came back to life. After a couple of reboots the device drivers were initialized again and everything was back to normal.</div><div><br /></div><div>I have the Microsoft nVidia driver 7.12.11.7431 installed, which came through the Windows Update.</div><div><br /></div><div><br /><div><br /></div></div>

CODE 43 on Nvidia GeForce 8800 Ultra
Ok, I have <u><b>dual</b></u> (2) 8800 Ultra cards. Only one of them has Code 43, the other says it is working properly but yet I still cannot get a display working correctly. Dsiabling and re-enabling cards/unistalling and reinstalling them does nothing. Some other symptoms:<br /> 1. Reloaded the latest Nvidia drivers dated April 2010 from the site. Shows a good driver in device manager--8.17.11.9745.<br /> 2. Nvidia control panel available as an option in Control Panel-Hardware and Sound, but will not run. Says "you are not currently using a display attached to Nvidia GPU".<br /> 3. Display chipset is not recognized. Display is (default monitor) despite the appropriate Dell drivers loaded. Adapter tab has &amp;amp;lt;unavailable&amp;amp;gt; for all chipset and other adapter parameters.<br /> 4. Changing physical displays with another monitor with DVI input produces same results<br /> 5. Switching the DVI output to the other "good" 8800 ultra produces same results.<br /> 6. Reloading windows does nothing different.<br /> 7. System restore does nothing different.<br /> 8. problems started with trend micro and Windows 7 updates around 25 March 2010.

Fix it.
Go to Manage(Win 7) &gt; right click caution sign on USB&gt; select disable ... wait ... try again with enable..

Can someone out there answer this? This isn't the only person experiencing this issue.
