Event ID 1792 — Active Directory Integration

Applies To: Windows Server 2008

Windows Deployment Services depends on Active Directory Domain Services for various functions. The Pre-Boot Execution Environment (PXE) provider creates machine accounts and service control points (SCPs) in Active Directory. An SCP is a child object under a Windows Deployment Services server account object, and it is used to store configuration data for the server. For example, an SCP can mark the server as a Windows Deployment Services server so that other Windows Deployment Services servers can find it.

Resolve

Free up memory and CPU capacity

To resolve this issue, increase the amount of available memory and CPU capacity on the Windows Deployment Services server. One way to increase the amount of available memory is to determine whether there are any programs or processes running on the server that can be closed. Use Task Manager to determine which processes are using the most memory, and to end those processes.

To perform this procedure, you must either be a member of the local Administrators group or have been delegated the appropriate authority.

To free up memory on the server:

  1. On the Windows Deployment Services server, right-click an empty area of the taskbar, and then click Task Manager.
  2. Click the Processes tab.
  3. Make sure that the User Name and Memory (Private Working Set) columns appear. If they do not appear, click Select Columns on the View menu, select the User Name and the Memory (Private Working Set) check boxes, and then click OK.
  4. At the bottom of the tab, select the Show processes from all users check box.
  5. If the User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click Continue.
  6. To sort the processes by memory usage, click the Memory (Private Working Set) column heading.
  7. Determine whether it is safe to end any of the memory-intensive processes.
  8. To end a process, click the process name and then click End Process.
  9. Click End Process to confirm that you want to end the process.

If you cannot free memory by using Task Manager, or if this issue still occurs after you try to free up memory, restart the server. If the issue persists, you should consider adding more memory to the server.

Verify

To perform this procedure, you must either be a member of the local Domain Admins group or have been delegated the appropriate authority.

To ensure that there is a service control point (SCP) in Active Directory:

  1. Open Active Directory Users and Computers. (Click Start, click Administrative Tools, and click Active Directory Users and Computers)
  2. Browse to the computer account for the Windows Deployment Services server.
  3. Right-click the server, and then click Properties.
  4. Ensure that there is a Remote Install tab with the introductory sentence "You can manage this remote installation server."  The presence of this tab indicates that there is an SCP for this object.
