System reboot      tomaslo   |   Edit   |   Show History
I get the same error as BaudeC describes and then Vista shuts down and reboots. I have Vista Business SP1 and have all available updates installed. Have tried to disable automatic detection of Intranet but not shure if this helps. I'll be back with the result.

IE -> Tools -> Options -> Security -> Local Intranet -> Sites ->

Uncheck the first box and check the other three.

I have got same error as tomaslo and my PC also reboots after this HttpEvent-error!!

There isn't such an option to safely ignore this error...

vista crashed 5 times today ... (update: no more reboots after installing new driver)      AtLeast1Character ... Thomas Lee   |   Edit   |   Show History

I have had several Vista crashes today and every time I find this message at time of the crash in the event log.

Symptoms: The screen gets black and I cannot do input, but the pc is still running. After pressing the power button Vista seems to shut down properly as there is no special message at startup time. The screen remains black until the system is starting up.

My PC is brand new and I must know what's wrong with it. Now I have to speculate if this is the cause or not...!? All windows updates are installed. The problem seems to happen only if I do something like starting a program, switching to an other vista user or ending a program. I want to know if this issue is still being processed by Microsoft or not.

Update:

The main problem seems to be solved for me. Windows Vista runs stable after installing the newest driver for my graphic card "NVidia GeForce 9500 GT". However, I still get the message in the event log from time to time, but since there are no crashes I can opt for "safely ignoring".

So Microsoft how exactly do I "ignore" this error? My computer keeps rebooting, I can ignore the error message but I cant ignore the fact that my computer just rebooted and I have to start my download over again, or deal with any unsaved work being deleted. I have papers that I need to write for school and if I keep having problems with your operating system I'm going to stop buying Microsoft products. Make me a happy customer...

Event ID 15016 - Disabled      By-Tor   |   Edit   |   Show History

Ok so I figured out how to stop the Event ID 15016 (HttpEvent errors) from happening.

This is a real simple Registry Edit.

Open the Event and click Details. Then click on XLM.

Copy the GUID - Example {7b6bc78c-898b-4170-bbf8-1a469ea43fc5}

Open RegEdit highlight Computer, go to Edit > Find and paste the GUID. Just as shown the the example above.

Regedit will display HKey_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WINEVT\Publishers\{7b6bc78c-898b-4170-bbf8-1a469ea43fc5}

On the right hand side, open the Enabled (Reg_DWord) and change the 1 to 0

Reboot.

Once I had done this, the errors did not appear. Although this has worked on my PC, I can not make any garrantees. Please use at your own risk.

Any news ? Did the registry fix above works ? I have the same error.

Thanks for your reply.

I say" ignore all errors in eventlog", be consistent.... OR.. have a upload process to m/s to send all our logs daily, and they can produce fixes to update the registries install hotfixes and keep our machines working right.

either way, customers do nothing, and m/s fixes their errors themselves. that would be what BILL wanted when he was a young boy.

only changes whether or not the error is reported. I don't think it actually makes the problem go away.

Does anyone getting this error use AVG Anti-Virus? I've noticed that after my computer freezes up due to this error, when it boots back up, AVG's update manager cannot connect and I get an error message from that application.

GUI Freeze      PressedRat   |   Edit   |   Show History

Error doesn't seem related to network really, but that is what is written to the log.

USB mouse pointer disappears, the GUI freezes solid, display freezes, no mouse or keyboard, hard reboot required.

It happens when viewing a pdf file, in line with Internet Explorer 7.

I smell a driver interaction, maybe? See another user had an NVidea 9500.

Asus NVIDEA EN9600GT, usb mouse, vista ultimate 64, intel 6600Quad, 8GB Corsair dominator ram.

Same here! Mouse pointer visible but all freezes and the hard reboot is required.

My specs: Leadtek GF8600 GTS, usb mouse/keyboard, intel quad 9450, 8GB DDR2 RAM Geil Black Dragon.

I noticed that my computer mostly hungs when I do a lot of multitasking - opening and working on different applications at once, but that is not a rule.

Question for everyone: DO YOU USE 64bit SYSTEM??? I have a feeling that it can be connected with JAVA and its lack of compatibility with 64bits (most of my java and XML applications hung), but that's just a wild guess.

EDIT: For Zauselchen - not a chance. I personaly tried reinstalling twice - happens even on a 'vanilla' system.

Same annoying problem for me too      Metalgod   |   Edit   |   Show History
I've been seeing this error in the log alot in the past month. Mostly in the middle of playing some more recent games. The PC hangs leaving only a hard boot to fix or it decides to just reboot itself - how thoughtful. Any way if there's a driver issue please let me know also, I'm running a 8800GTX Core 2 Quad 2.66ghz. Sometimes wonder if Mcafee is a cause - usually find an error log pertaining to mfetdik driver, device manager says it's missing something but I can't seem to update that either. On another note I installed a new HDD hence a clean install of Vista 32 Home Premium and still the problem remains.

REINSTALLATION DOES NOT FIX IT      Tadpo1e   |   Edit   |   Show History

NO Zauselchen, a reinstallation does not fix it, i tried it because i was so frustrated with it and , well, its still doing it.

also ive noticed when the error occurs my screen goes either - white, purple or blue or like multicoloured with red lines going down the screen no error code comes up and then it reboots.

i thought it was my graphics card so i changed from nvidia to an ati 8300 series card but it still done the error, so i changed my ram and got 2 new 1gig sticks and that never helped either.

the error occurs randomly but more frequently when i watch online video or play a game, but then sometimes it wont happen for hours, i dont know how to solve it and i am really annoyed with this error!!!

also it happend before i got sp1 and after it too, i have trawled throught the net to try and find a fix but no luck so far

ok ive also noticed this, i get these three reports in a row -

Error 22/11/2008 09:38:45 EventLog 6008 None - improper system shutdown

Error 22/11/2008 09:38:46 Eventlog 1101 Event processing - audits dropped, file corrupt

Error 22/11/2008 09:38:48 HttpEvent 15016 None - Kerberos error.

look at the times they happen, these three events happen one after the other regularly, anyone else get this?

Did this start happening with latest Vista updates?      PGB999   |   Edit   |   Show History
I get the same errors as everyone else:

* The previous system shutdown at 5:41:41 PM on 11/28/2008 was unexpected.

* Audit events have been dropped by the transport. The real time backup file was corrupt due to improper shutdown.

* Unable to initialize the security package Kerberos for server side authentication. The data field contains the error number.

I don't have AVG or McAfee. This error happens when I am playing a game, and also when the screen saver is running - I come back to find my computer frozen. It happens randomly, with no set interval or anything certain I am doing. Everything is up to date. This started happening about a month ago, right around the time there were a bunch of Windows Vista updates. I suspect that Microsoft changed something which is leading to driver incompatibilities.

My computer has been doing all of the above for about a year and a half. I even formatted the raid drives and reloaded the operating system and other software. The guy that works for the supply house where I buy my computer stuff at had it for about a week and told me that it is a windows update file causing the problem. I ran it without updating any files and it fixed the problem completely. Only thing is I needed the updates. When i allowed the updated within one day it started doing it all over again. I am convinced it is an update causing the problem.

i was using four gigs of ram ddr3 1066 speed. I realized the problems started a couple of months after they came with a update to use more of the ram. I took out the extra ram to back me down to 2 gigs. the problem has not come back in 3 days. so that means that i have a bad stick or the windows does not know how to deal with it.

All Vista versions: system freeze and no input      Marvic NL   |   Edit   |   Show History
Same here: the whole system freezes and mouse and keyboard (which have light in them) turns dark and no iput is possible. I only hear my hard drives and a hard reboot is the only option. I has been a mightmare, because the same problem is also on Vista 32 bits with or or without all the new drivers, updates for all (!!!) hard and software. So I use 64 bits with the same problems.

Also professionals dont know what it is and replaced every hardware (!) of my totally new system. But it'still coming back argh! It's getting me MAD!

Anyone new suggestions, because its not entirely clear that this event log IS the cause of all trouble

There is no possible way to fix this problem, until that is, microsoft updates it or does their thing. But, you can reinstall your operating system, and before you do anything, turn of windows updates in the services, and as far as its been for me, i have been problem free. So, the problem, VISTA SUCKS. I spent countless hours online going through forums, and the only thing that i could find is "You can safely ignore this error", well since it was a microsoft update that caused this problem, and this problem seems to cause crashes, I wonder..... can it safely be ignored ...

So... reinstall OS don't download any updates from microsoft, and you will never have a system crash again. Problem solved.

My Vist64 business hangs sometimes too. The screens becomes black but the PC is still running.

In the Eventviewer are three Errors on every shutdown.
1. Event 1101 Eventlog ...
2. Event 6008 EventLog ...That the System wasnt correctly shuting down
3. Event 15016 HttpEvent ..Kerveros... --> this is the Error where we here talking about

The last comment sad that he solved the Problem. My Router uses cable and Wireless, but my PC is connected with a cable so that i think that is nothing to do with the wireless WAP or WEP security, or ???

Today i installed new ATI Sapphire grafics driver, my realtek onboard Audio driver, updated my bios, but there is no change. Is there anyone who has a solution at this time?

My story      KeremDem   |   Edit   |   Show History

Here is my system:

MOTHERBOARD: ASUS P5Q3 DELUXE WIFI INTEL P45 / ICH10R DDR3 FSB 1600MHz SOKET 775

MEMORY: 4GB (2x2) DDR3 1600MHZ Special Ops Urban Elite CL9 RAM

CPU: INTEL CORE 2 QUAD Q9550 2.83GHz 12MB CACHE 1333MHZ LGA775

GRAPHICS CARD: HD4850 IceQ 4 GDDR3 1GB 256BIT

HARD DISK: SEAGATE 1 TB 7200 RPM 32 MB CACHE NCQ SATA2 SABİT DİSK ST31000340AS

1st SETUP:

VISTA SP1 ULTIMATE 64 BIT

I used the drivers that has come with the hardwares CDs. Used the hard disk drivers as AHCI.

After the installation i had continously blue screens which indicates Mini Kernel Memory Dumps. In first step while moving large files. Later in any time....

Instaling all the updates and closing WMI and Kerberos services, did not make any sense. Problem is going on...

So i decided to make another clean install.

2nd SETUP:

VISTA SP1 ULTIMATE 64 BIT (Same with the first one)

Changed the orders of RAMs and checked all the cables for any problem. No problem.

I surf on the net and found the most updated drivers for the hardwares. Also the most recent driver for AHCı from the Intel web site.

Setup is succesfull. But suddenly my screen had begun to freeze. (God dam...) And time to time these freezing continued

My event logs indicated Kerberos and WMI(Event ID 10 — Event Filter Query Functionality) and this Kerberos thing became my headache!

Instaling all the updates and closing WMI and Kerberos services, did not make any sense. Problem is going on again...

Another clean install is on the way then...

3rd SETUP:

In my ex-computer i was using Vista Business SP1 and i remembered that it was so durable and no problem, so i decided to install VISTA SP1 BUSINESS 64-BIT from the Action Pack.

Installed the OS and used the most recent drivers again.

Installed all the recent Update packages.

(By the way on System Information it is still written Vista Ultimate 64-bit although i installed Business... Thatz weird)

WELL, PROBLEM is SOLVED by now. Everything is going fine. No blue screen, no freezings and broke downs.

At least by now...

I hope this issue can help you.

Event ID 15016 - January 11th 2009      nVidiaUser2009   |   Edit   |   Show History

I too am having this issue on my machine. Event viewer shows Event ID 15016 and the times coincide with complete system lockups. The screen will not go to a 'Blue Screen of Death' but will just freeeze, as if a screenshot was taken and it covers the screen. The mouse will still move but no keyboard inputs will work, programs will not close or open. Nothing happens. Post after post say that this error should just be ignored but I cannot ignore an issue that causes me to have to reboot my computer constantly due to it locking up from this Kerberos call issue. The other posts also say that I must join a Domain and this error will go away but I am using my Vista Ultimate 64-bit edition at home and am not part of a Domain. SO, my questions are as follows: 1. How do I join a domain of just myself, since I only have 1 computer or 2. How do I install a better Kerberos application or remove it?

Thanks

With these "ok to ignore" errors (false positives) how can I debug a problem. , such as the one I am trying to fix that prevents system shutdowns. If an error is always safe to ignore it shouldn't be reported. If it isn't, it should not be reported as safe to ignore.

The same problem      Dan7305   |   Edit   |   Show History

As with everyone else, I am having the same problem. The computer will freeze and then restart on it's own, no option. Once it has restarted tells me it experienced an unexpected shutdown blah, blah, blah. I was positive it was the video card and removed it, it's a ATI Radeon HD 3450 DDR2. After removing it and just using the intergrated video card had no further problems, which is fine if I wanted that in the first place but I really like the benefits the video card has to offer, plus the face that it cost more with the card. Anyway, I just got a replacement video card and not long after I installed it, the computer unexpectedly started to shutdown again, leaving me with the belief that their must be a comflict with the latest vista release and video cards. Have not experienced any problems with the laptop I bought at the same time but I use only an integrated video card in that so that's probably the reason. I have no intention of formatting my drives or replacing any of the other components. I'm simply going to take out the video card until windows gets their act together and releases an upgrade to fix this problem that so many of us have.

I will continue to look on here to see if anyone comes up with a better solution though, obviously microsoft haven't got anyone smart enough to solve the problem.

Ok i have now started to have this problem and it is making it nearly impossible for me to play a game when i have some downtime. This really needs to get sorted out quickly by microsoft as there doesn't seem to be anything we can do as users to solve this. Have always been happy with vista but this is really starting to alter that view more so the longer it takes to sort it out. Out of curiosity does anyone know if the beta of windows 7 has this problem because if it doesn't i may well be binning vista and installing the win 7 beta.

Let me say that that test.vbs dont work at all... I fixed my problem but how?!!

I removed my memories one by one... (2x2gb kit)... I just used one and saw that there is no problem. Then I decided that the problem is about the Memory and motherboard confliction.

Got in touch with the motherboard (Asus P5Q3 Deluxe Wifi) dealer. They said that I'm using a Memory that is not in QVL list. (Sh!!!!t) So what am i gonna do? Have an appropriate one.

Yeah I'm getting the memories from the fields!! Anyway, I called the Memory dealer. Thanks God, they say that they can give me right Bios settings for stabilized working.

Then i updated my Bios settings with the figures they have given and problem is gone away...

They said that it's interesting that i dont have any error with MemTest x86.

To me, it is weird as well!

Have luck everybody

Well after seemingly getting rid of this problem it has returned again making gaming nearly impossible on my pc. It is not a power problem in my case i have a branded 700w psu powering my pc and heat is also not an issue i have now run hours of tests on my components and they all come back fine this includes memtest, occt, intel burn test and many other programs off the ultimate boot cd. I have installed a hotfix that was supposed to deal with a problem vista has with multicore cpu's and all of that has got me exactly no where. Yes i could remove 2 of my 4 memory modules but thats why i bought a 64 bit os so i could use 8gig of memory. Come on MS get this sorted out please as it really is getting to the point of me binning vista. I asked before but havn't seen a response does the windows 7 beta have this problem or not because if it doesn't then i will install that as my primary os till this is sorted out.

SP1 related      RelMan   |   Edit   |   Show History
32b Vista Home Premium and above didn't help the blue screen of death and constant rebooting from the event 15016 issue that I was experiencing. I read one thread that the Kerberos was introduced in SP1. Uninstalling SP1 seems to have fixed the problem for me. Better to live without for now than an unuseable PC, until MSFT fixes the damn issue. Why does MSFT make us suffer so much? No wonder Macs are getting more popular and people afraid to switch to Vista.

Reinstalling SP1      Vince Bernardo   |   Edit   |   Show History
I upgraded XP Pro SP3 to Vista Ultimate SP1 32-bit on 1/8/2009. Several days later, I started getting "Disruptive Shutdown" events with the associated Event ID 15016 error above.

This problem appears to have been going on for 5 months and counting. I hope that Microsoft at least acknowledges it and begins working on a fix. (I could be wrong - I have not done an exhaustive search of recent PSS Hotfix articles.)

Ironically, the copy of Vista Ultimate SP1 was a gift from Microsoft in early 2008 to hype the launch of SP1 and to try to reverse the negative image of Vista that most techies had. I held out for nearly a year before I finally decided to upgrade my primary PC - only to have this happen. Six or more disruptive reboots in a day, occasionally shutting down and not coming back up.

I am going to try a fresh install of SP1 and hope that wipes out all the updates. If that works, I'll then add each update back manually to try to figure out which one is the culprit. I'll report back in a few days if this turns out to be helpful.

Incidentally, what prompted me to take a chance on Vista was all the glowing reports on Windows 7 Beta coupled with some industry speculation that Vista's bad rap was caused by exaggerated and anecdotal media coverage. That may well be true - after all, my experience is just another anecdote.

Vista has been the victim of bad press      RizlaKing   |   Edit   |   Show History
As annoyed as i am with this error and getting more annoyed the longer it goes on fact is vista is a vast improvement over xp and i never cease to be amazed at the rose tinted specs many now view xp with. Xp when it was released and upto sp2 had a plethora of problems that could be more annoying then this problem on vista and for that reason vista has to be taken more on it's merits then the press it got. I have found most that slate vista do so after using it for a day or two and in many cases the people constantly slating it havn't even tried it they are just repeating things they have read on various websites. Vista isn't perfect by any means but it is no where near as bad as a lot of people and websites would like us all to believe and constantly citing the lack of business take up is stupid as the same thing happened with xp many company's didn't take up xp until it had been out for quite a while as is the company way they like stable and established products. Ms havn't helped vista with the windows 7 program which has given credence to people shouting vista is rubbish as they now say thats why ms are releasing windows 7 so quick fact is ms are getting back to the old way of releasing an os every two years or so xp was a glitch it was never intended to be the main os for so long.

BSOD and information.      JOKirk46   |   Edit   |   Show History
Vista does a great job. If there's a message with a specific error, while that error may be associated with your more serious issue, it's not causing your bluescreens. This is rather obvious for anyone with any level of technical knowledge whatsoever. If you're here simply to whine about Microsoft, I would encourage you to wander elsewhere for a more like-minded crowd. I would encourage anyone looking for help to be a little more professional (and logical) than some of these posts, as it's tough to motivate yourself to help someone who isn't trying to help themselves. TechNet has an incredible amount of useful information -- it's not your personal soap box. Now, I'll get off my soap box here, and get back to business.

I have a machine doing this at the office, a 64 bit Windows Business machine, HP. It's in use by a CAD developer so it's way past the 2gb mentioned previously. I'm going to try seeing if the machine has any BIOS updates (since I've seen that impact Vista stability on older boards) and if that doesn't do any good, I plan to drop it down to 2GB and see what happens. The EventIDs I'm receiving are:

EDIT: I forgot to mention... This CAD workstation is one of three very much identical machines (hardware, OS, software, everything), and neither of the other two showing are any problems at all. More than likely a hardware issue of some kind, though I've yet to come up with a good guess as to what.

Agree and understand JO but.....lol      RizlaKing   |   Edit   |   Show History
Yeah i agree with the point your making JO but i think half the problem here is the randomness with which this problem is happening there doesn't seem to be a particular pattern to solving what works for one doesn't work for another. After the hours of tests i have done i have narrowed it down to one of two possible hardware issues. One is power supply not being upto the job despite what it states and i am going to resolve that as i said in a few weeks. The other is my gfx card and will start testing that is the new psu doesn't solve it. I absolutely agree that ms bashing is pointless more so as were relying on them to give us a general solution and that this problem does not warrant a vista bash. I also understand how frustrating it can be for some not being able to resolve this and therefore make an allowance for emotive chat :). I am sure we can all work together to sort this out eventually.
Vista In-Place Upgrade + Disable Auto Update Potentially Solved the Problem      Vince Bernardo   |   Edit   |   Show History
It's reasonable to expect folks to vent some of their frustration in these posts. To be clear, it's not the ignorable HTTP Authentication Error that people are reacting to. It's the non-ignorable random reboots and shutdowns that disrupt their computer use that has people justifiably upset.

But back to business...

PGB999's post set off some lightbulbs (thanks, man). Remember the "XP Repair" or in-place upgrade trick on XP, where you could revert your system to a Service Pack level without additional updates? The same works in Vista - do a Google search and you'll find information on how to do it.

You have to remember to immediately shut down Automatic Updates after the upgrade. Better yet, disable your network services prior to the upgrade to avoid accidentally re-downloading the problematic patches.

I've only been running a day on my restored system (back to vanilla Vista Ultimate 32-bit SP1) but Reliablity and Performance Monitor reports no more disruptive reboots and my reliability score went up a tick from 1.60 to 2.06. I'm going to let it run 24 hours for a few more days to confirm stability, then start testing the security patches one by one. Windows Update is great in that it can be configured to allow you to select which updates to install, making this testing a lot easier.

I'm a big fan of Auto Updates (though I would recommend even more highly that users install and keep updated susbscriptions for a decent firewall and anti-virus program) so I'm not advocating keeping it off permanently. This is just an interim step to determine whether a recent patch may have triggered the problem.

This is also not to say that the patch alone is at fault. It is still very possible that it is interacting with drivers or something else on the system.

If anyone else would like to do parallel testing, it would certainly help to have more eyes on this.

Dreamscene + SLi      MOG_Shooter   |   Edit   |   Show History
Hi all,

As an 47y old addict gamer...lol, here are some of my experiences regarding the issue.
Using Vista Ultimate
AMD 6.4Ghz xp x2
GTX260 x2 SLi
4Gb Corsair
1000w PSU

Having the same problem of screenfreeze, no input, blackscreens, ect.... and trying to find a solution for months (differend settings), i found good results
on disabling Dreamscene (do a google search on how to), but did not resolve the problem completly yet, although it became more stabel already, but i had no problem playin games such as BF2142, COD1 >>>COD5, and some others, it only occured on 1 game (for me at least) that is IL2 Sturmovik, an older flight sim. So at the time IL2 was developd they probable didn't have the GPU's that we are using right now and were using an older grafics engine then the newer games, so thought to my self why not try to disable SLi for this game and Bingo IL2 works perfectly so far, as my search progressed over the last 5 months, it seems a more of an Nvidia problem, or a combination of Vista with Nvidia, what or who is triggering the error,...sry...dunno.
But you can try to start disabling Dreamscene and disabling Sli. It worked for me.
Goodluck

Possible conflict with driver causing this maybe.      RizlaKing   |   Edit   |   Show History
Ok had to send my X2 back the other day and had to reinstall my old 7800gtx to tide me over till my X2 is back. Straight away i had the crashes but i found if i waited last time for over twenty minutes a blue screen did eventually come up pointing to nvlddmkm.sys as being the problem although in event viewer it still listed 15016 kerberos as the fault. Now this made me think i am not completely sure i wiped the old nvidia drivers thoroughly before installing my X2 and putting the old card back in has really kicked up the crashes now does it on desktop with nothing running. So i am too coming to the conclusion that there is something in vista not reacting well with nvidia drivers but until i get my X2 back at which time i will do a complete format and install can't be 100% sure but crashes are a lot more frequent then they were. I am still going to buy the new psu as it never hurts to totally rule out a cause but i am more and more thinking this is a gfx driver problem vista has and remembering nvidia had problems with vista at release and for a while after maybe they never really sorted them out properly here's hoping anyway.

Repeating Error 15016 - System Restart      MartinDK   |   Edit   |   Show History
Hi,

I'm experiencing this error message once or twice a day at random times. The Event log records error codes 1101, 6008 and 15016. It seems to happen after the system has been left dormant and fallen asleep. I've only observed it happening once while watching the screen - the system seems to lock out, blue screen and restart. When returning to the PC and waking it up the login screen is shown indicating the system has failed and restarted sometime during the period since the system was left idle.

For info the system is Vista Home Premium, a Dell Studio 17 laptop, Intel Core Duo, 4gb ram. I've checked all drivers and Vista updates complete. I've used msconfig to reduce all startup services and processes to minimum and failure still occurs.

I'm at a loss about this failure and it's causing a fair amount of inconvenience. While mode of failure would seem to indicate some hardware problem I've been unable to locate any fault. Yet there is no repeatable set of actions that can reproduce the failure. The most common feature seem to be that it is possibly related to the system being idle or going to sleep.

I would welcome any suggestions about how to further investigate this problem and/or pointers towards a more appropriate location for seeking advice. Reading the notes attached to this error code it seems I'm not alone in expeiencing this problem.

One other question. Why doesn't this failure (random shutdown / restart) show as a 'problem to be reported'? While the errors are recorded in the Event log it doesn't otherwise seem to be logged as a 'Problem' to be reported and or investigated.

With thanks in anticipation of your feeeback.

More and more i think about it i look at the psu      RizlaKing   |   Edit   |   Show History
I am starting to get this on the desktop now while encoding video files where as it used to happen only in games so i am leaning more to the psu being on the way out. Also as i am soon to have a psu that should more then power my system i am hoping thats the problem so it will be sorted. My psu is branded but not a good brand a kingwin 700w and is a couple of years old and plenty of people have had problems with them as they get even a couple of years old. Most iof us getting this error will have some idea what we think is causing it if we all start putting them on here maybe we can reach something that links us all rather then just saying we have the crash. I am not convinced the event id is helping as i am starting to believe that vista is just trying to explain something it doesn't understand it knows something has gone wrong but doesn't know exactly what so were getting an event id that vista decides explains it. I could be completely wrong but thats how i am viewing it at the minute.

Thought that might be overheating problem until once it got me 5min after I powered my PC on. :( WEIRD. Worst thing about it is that Microsoft choose to ignore this issue showing total disrespect for its PAYING customers.

As somebody mentioned b4 - it also happens to me much more frequantly while I start/use Vuze torrent. But not exclusively.

hello!

looks like some of you are experiencing the same problem as me!

current config:
OS : windows vista home basic 64 bit.
Asus P5Q Pro
8 gigs ram Apacer QLV verified
INTEL core2 8400
lan card Ralink RT61 turbo wireless card
GPU : 2x Asus EAH 4850 512 Mb in crossfire mode

problem : system freezes up sometimes with multiple explorer windows, when WOW loads (in the final stages of loading in the game for example.

The OS is up to date.
The drivers are up to date
Yes i've checked the ram
Yes i've checked the power supply. Not that fluctuating power source is the problem with vista, more of a problem with the whole machine.
I've tried 3 diff Lan cards: with the 2 DLINK models , not gotten anything . Dlink won't support vista ( i wonder why... !!!)

I'm running out of options.

All i'm left with is :

a) sell the pc and get a mac
b) get windows XP 64 bit
c) legal action - if anybody here would like to start one with me i'm up for the fight and i've already begun contacting a friend of mine who happends to be a rather good lawyer...

does windows care at all? hello? is there anybody there? remember that nice little trombone in office which tapped on the glass? well at the moment i'm him, banging on the glass....

help?

thanks!

A.

Threat of legal action is not helpful      RizlaKing   |   Edit   |   Show History
Kat i and all the others on here know very well how frustrating this problem can be and how badly it can affect your experience. That said there is not a problem that is ever made better because of lawyers and in this case where it may well be something on our pc's that is causing the problem the threat of legal action is not going to suddenly inspire MS to find a solution. I have no doubt they are working on this and are trying to find a solution but given there are hundreds of thousands if not millions of usrs that are happy and are not experiencing this we have to keep some perspective. As hard as it is when you have a problem that is as disruptive as this we have to give them time and have to accept that not everything can be solved. I am a few days away from getting my new psu and if after i install that i don't have the problem anymore i will know it isn't vista. I will keep this updated as i progress with this problem hopefully to a resolution that works not just for me but for most of us. But please lets not start talking about lawyers because if nothing else you might know a good one but i am sure MS know many more just as good and none of them can sort this out for us.

Some clues to why you can safely ignore this error      Peepone ... Thomas Lee   |   Edit   |   Show History
With some minor reading up on kerberos, I understand now that kerberos is a security encryption protocol for authenticating client to server and vice versa. To somewhat simplify, this kerberos protocol encrypts your password data traveling across any given network. So that people or malicous code cannot sniff out your password as it is traveling between you and the computer you are attempting to access.

Thus if you arent attempting to log into an FTP or mail server or VPN or using a secured network, this error will be commonly in your log, hence you can "safely ignore this error"

So if this error is driving you insane just edit the registry as described by "by-tor" in the above comments.

In relation to your lock ups and hangs and reboots this error 15016 is not the cause of your problem. Also it appears that this error is logged about every 30 mins, beginning on system startup of course.

[thomas lee]

Your understanding in the first paragrah is misleading. Kerberos does indeed encrypt passwords, but it's much much more than that. Basically, when you want to access any server, with Kerberos, you must first get a 'ticket' from a kerberos server (a DC) which is then presented to the server. The ticket does not contain your password as such.

Microsoft, come on, I have test several SOs versions in the same computer and only windows 2008 and windows vista give me this error.

The big problem here is not about reporting/ingnoring an error, the big problem here is that when this error comes out the system freeze and I have to hard reboot system to use it again.

This is ridiculus, how can I ignore an error that hangs a server?

Peepone as i said above i don't believe that kerberos is the problem but it is what vista is reporting for a problem many have. Also i do not have it logged every thirty minutes in fact the only time it is logged is when my pc freezes and then has to be hard rebooted. This problem is not what it seems and vista is unable to give a proper event id for it because i don't think vista knows what it is but the numbers of people having this makes it something worthy of MS's time to sort out.

As the title says it's a possibility that faulty ram could cause this easiest way such as it is to remove that possibility is to download memtest and run it for at least a few hours if your all green your ram is likely fine. I have already done that on mine and the ram was clear.

Before COH would show this error after about 5-10 minutes everytime i tryed to play it. Have now completed about 20-25 hours of play now with not a single error so i would say in my case and maybe for some of you it was a psu issue although originally i thought it was purely a vista program problem. When i started taking part in this thread my pc had a kingwin mach1 700w psu and as it is branded and wasn't a cheapie i thought it would be ok but it seems it was the problem and getting a new corsair tx850 has solved the problem.

I ran xp64 earlier on the same, now 6 months old machine, with no problem. I had freezes on everything. From 5-30 minutes from booting whatever I did (Gaming, surfing, wordprocessing). Here is what i did:

Removed Kerberos update as described earlier
disabled my network adapter (control panel/manage network connections)

and after that I can do everything exept surfing and checking my mail without fear of freezing.

Still have the problems with surfing though, guess it just wasnt meant to be.

Note: New computer wich functioned well under XP64 points to vista and service pack 1 since the problem didnt occur until this was installed. I initially ran vista64 without sp1 with no problem.

March 10, 2009. Still no workaround (suppressing the event doesn't count), no word from Microsoft and no fix. Unacceptable.

Oh yeah, the forced UI changes in the Windows 7 beta (no classic start menu) is horrible too.

Seems to me that the only current supported OS is Windows 2003. Vista is clearly being minimally maintained, especially in the hotfixes between service packs area, and Windows 2008 and Windows 7 come with draconian and forced changes that make long-time users shake their heads and say, "why?"

I've been running Citrix Winframe and Windows NT since 3.51, and this current product portfolio is a bloody mess.

Fix stuff. If you have to charge for serve packs, do so, but please, FIX STUFF. Every event in the event log that is an error should be solve-able. Period.

nvidia may be the cause for no video input to monitor      veruschkan   |   Edit   |   Show History
I had a similar issue with my HP slimline s3230f. It's nvidia8500GT stopped working when it would overheat, stall, shutdown, and produce the Oscar winning BSOD. If I turned it off over night, it would poweron without a problem the following day. Lo and behold, I found the following info on the nvidia chips and HP:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c01514044

nvidia distributed defective graphics cards that are known to overheat and may cause damage to the motherboard and HDD due to overheating. Please check to see if you are one of (dis)fortunate ones.

Luckily for me my computer was under warranty and was replaced my HP. Unfortunatey they replaced with the same graphics card! WTF So we'll see how long the replacement lasts.

Once I received the new one, I did two things: 1) installed the latest nvidia driver and 2) updated the BIOS. The happened back in December 08. So far so good! I hope this helps someone out there.

Ok, this is extremely frustrating. I've search a zillion webpages looking for the solution, but still have no luck. And if all these people are having the same problem, why hasn't microsoft done anything about it? Instead, they just come out with a new operating system in hopes that everyone will just forget that vista even existed.
So here's my story. I have vista home premium 64-bit. My computer randomly freezes, but more often when I play World in conlfict. Like others, keyboard, mouse ctrl alt del do not work! After a hard reboot i look at the event view and it says event id 15016 as well as the "disruptive shutdown" message. This error can not be safely ignored microsoft!!!! I have done memtest, prime95, swapped out memory, swapped out graphics cards, and have all the latest drivers installed. (Have an HD 4850 ATI graphics card fyi). what is the deal???

A Fix that Works ...      MartinDK   |   Edit   |   Show History
After 5 months I've at last found a fix that works for me. For details please see the 'Try This ...' entry above and follow the link given. Many thanks Moridineau! Your suggested fix worked a treat. To summarise I viewed my internet options security settings [Tools:Internet Options:Security:local intranet] and found that the settings differed from those described in the link in your entry [http://briannoyes.net/PermaLink.aspx?guid=34f614d2-53aa-4af4-bd7c-581d8e3af856]. I reset the entry to 'default' and then changed the 'Sites' setting to remove the checkmark for 'automatically detect intranet settings' and manually set the lower three checkmarks: 'include all local ...', 'include all sites ...' and 'include all network ...'. That done no more problems and no more freezes!

For reference I checked two other Vista pcs we have that were not experiencing this problem - both had the 'correct' Local intranet security settings. Before finding this fix I had already tested out for hardware defects, driver incompatibilities and software interference. The specfic sequence of errors I was experiencing at a freeze was : error 15016, 6008 and 1101. If you experiencing freezes and this sequence of errors it may be indicative that this fix is relevant to you. I have experienced error 15016 since applying this fix but without the system freezing - notably when forcing Outlook to quit with the Task Manager. This would seem to support the argument, elsewhere here, that the 15016 error itself is not 'responsible' for the system freeze. That said this does seem to be an Vista OS/MS problem. This was a new workstation from Dell. And while it is possible these intranet security settings may have been applied by the manufacturer or as a result of a software installation by me, they are part of the OS. MS should take note that these security settings have the potential to cause system freezes and a support notice (and or fix) should be generated to inform people of this problem.

I hope this note is of use to anyone else experiencing similar problems. And finally, once again, a big thank you to Moridineau.

Hey, dont want to sound like a typical gamer-stereotype but im getting this error whenever im playing online games, is this sparking up the kerberos error because of the data being transmitted between the client and server?

Non techie fix on my PC      drdom   |   Edit   |   Show History

Had same problem when online gaming, Random events always associated with this error. Countless attempts at all solutions listed above.
As stupid and non intutive as it sounds I fixedthe problem by changing settings on my display from 32 to 16 bit.
Using a 4870 x2 graphics card. I trialled rechanging the settings a few times and definitley seems to sort the problem and have been playing 2 weeks without a crash

I bought the fancy graphics card specifically for gaming, maybe someone can figure out how this causes such an error.

Update - Intranet Security Settings & Cause of 15016 Errors      MartinDK   |   Edit   |   Show History
Following my earlier post above, I've had a further experience of systems freezes with the error sequence: 15016, 6008, 1101. This reaffirms the information given in my earlier post and appears to identify the culprit programme as ZoneAlarm. After a routine update of ZoneAlarm, ZoneAlarm requested permission, having learnt about my usage, to change to 'maximum security' settings. I accepted the invitation allowing ZoneAlarm to make the changes. After a short time I experienced a system freeze similar to those described in my earlier posts above. On checking my Internet Options:Security:Intranet settings I discovered that the checkmark had reappeared against the 'detect settings automatically' option. Since resetting this [per my earlier post] I haven't experienced any further freezes. This appears to reinforce my earlier notes about the cause of system freezes with the sequence: 15016, 6008, 1101. It appears that ZoneAlarm changes the 'Internet Options' security settings for Intranet as part of switching to 'maximum security'. Time for MS and ZoneAlarm to talk to each other about this problem? If you're experience system freezes, this sequence of errors, and using ZoneAlarm my advice is to check your Internet Options security settings as per my earlier post. Hope this helps - good luck!

Same Issue April 20 2009      disappointed and frustrated   |   Edit   |   Show History
Where to start? The machine is (since we're sharing):

OS: Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit SP1
PSU: Corsair 650TX (650 Watt)
CPU: Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz
MB: ASUS P6T LGA 1366 Intel X58
RAM: OCZ Gold 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
GRAPHICS: EVGA GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512MB

I have had all three. Unexpected reboots, freezing of the screen forcing me to reboot, and the good old blue screen followed by a reboot.

I can tell you that it is not the PSU, unless mine is somehow defective. 650W is more than enough for a single 9800GTX+, especially when not gaming.

I have played maybe Call of Duty World at War twice, and haven't had the issue after done playing. All the other times, I have had this problem occur even during simple things such as browsing the web and checking email.

I don't do any graphics intensive DVD creations or whatever else that artists do.

I do run Visual Studio 2008 and VMWare 6.5 since I am a developer, and that is pretty much why I have the i7 with 6GB of RAM and a 64bit OS.

For the one user who was wondering if Windows 7 has the same problem or not. I actually built this machine so that I can finally get the desktop off of XP and onto something more current, so I did start off with Windows 7 32-bit beta. I did not have this problem, but I only had Windows 7 for about two weeks. Since Windows 7 didn't really support my new hardware all that well, and the drivers that came on CDs that came with the hardware won't run on Windows 7, I decided to switch to something more stable. And that is how I ended up here.

Since I actually read through this post, I have changed the intranet settings in the "Try this" post, so I have yet to see if that fixes my problem or not.

I have had Vista 32-bit Home Premium on my Dell Laptop for over a year now, and I have never encountered a sudden reboot or a BSOD, but that machine has a Core 2 Duo on it. I would like to know if anyone has tried the KB fix mentioned above by HPPhil L, since that might be tied to our issue. Everyone here has some decent hardware with quad core processors.

KB fix Dosen't Work,Intranet Setting Fix also Didn't Work.      bainy ... Thomas Lee   |   Edit   |   Show History

I tried the Hotfix suggested above by HPPhil Land can be found at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953186/en-us However, it dosen't work the same problems are encountered. The system still freezes and needs a reboot and the event viewer still displays the error. Its time this issue was addressed and fixed by Microsoft. I also tried the Intranet fix mentioned above by MartinDK but it also didn't work, still get the same result and I don't have Zonealarm installed on my system.Good luck to those that appear to have it sort of fixed but as yet I still await a fix.Never had any significant issues with Vista till this last few months whereby this problem started.I've racked my brains as to whats caused the problem but have drawn a blank.

Back with a Vengence - Error Seq 15016, 6008, 1101      MartinDK   |   Edit   |   Show History

Well, so much for that. After a period of calm of over a month the problem is back. The previous 'fix' of Intranet Settings I reported above no longer seems to be the 'cause'. I've started experiencing the random freezes again. I'm at a complete loss and this is causing real hassle. The problem is the system doesn't even report that it has failed. It simply represents the log-in screen. It is almost as if the system has done an automatic shutdown restart without permission. The problem is that in doings so it quits all the open applications and you lose and temporary data.

I'm fairly certain this is not a hardware problem. I'd welcome any ideas on where to go next in looking for a solution.

Thanks,

I can ignore this error can I? After all I have read about this error, I can safely ignore it? I've done two fresh installs and hours of your *** updates twice now. I'm bloody sick of my PC crashing and freezing all the time. This time round I have only had Vista 32 Ultimate installed for less than a day and I am crashing already. What a joke. Fix it you ***s. What a waste of money Vista was I should have stayed with XP.

Comments on crashing      Navilor   |   Edit   |   Show History

I get this error all of the time in my logs and have yet to experience even a tiny bit of a stutter. I am unsure if this bug is severe enough to cause continual crashing.

The most common thing I see that is nigh impossible to track down is (and I expect people to flame me for this) the power supply. Having one that is about to go, is cheap or is in a prebuilt PC can cause random crashing. I had a PC about 10 years ago that had random crashing. Everyone said it was Windows. It wasn't. It was happening in Linux (Slackware 97 to be specific). Changed the power supply and that fixed the issue.

Hardware issues manifest themselves like many software issues.

Run Memtest86 and see if your memory passes. If it doesn't then either one or more sticks of RAM are bad or one or more slots on your motherboard are bad.

Have you cleared your BIOS? I fixed a PC about a year ago that all it took to fix his crashing over and over in the same spot in World of Warcraft was to clear the BIOS and put his settings back in. Issue solved.

Are any of you overclocking? That is a HUGE problem with stability. Even the best have problems at times.

But all of that doesn't fix this error from showing up in my log files. It tasks me.

I get the random reboots as well. It will go weeks with no problems and then all of a sudden it crashes reboots and does it every hour for a day.

The only work around I have found to break the cycle is a using a restor point. It obviously doesnt stop the reboot crashes but at least I dont have to wait for a day for this to clear up.

Like the rest of you I experience random freezes and the above errorsequence. In my case the freezes even occur when my monitor is turned off and all that is running is iTunes.... When the monitor is turned on the screen just resembles a screenshot as mentioned before. I have loved Vista ever since buying it, and it has worked PERFECTLY for two years up to last week. I then tried some fixes, which suspended the problem for about a week, but now they're back...

My specs;
Asus P5N32-E SLI
Asus GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB DDR3
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
4 GIG Ram (Kingston Value)

I tried all the fixes in this topic but none of them solved my problem...

Hope to read a solution here soon,
Narameh

complete system failure      Narameh   |   Edit   |   Show History
Dear boys and girls,

I sadly have to inform you that after hours of troubleshooting the problem my desktop has now ceased to boot at all. Everything I tried to restore the system doesn't work. I've booted from the installation cd a thousand times tonight and am now going to work through the night to get myself a clean install, if at all possible. I am nog going to download any updates and pray like a true believer that will solve the problem long enough for me to pass my end of year tests...
