Understanding Services for Macintosh

Services for Macintosh is made up of three parts:

  • File Server for Macintosh (also called MacFile) which lets you designate a folder as a Macintosh-accessible volume, ensures Macintosh file names are legal NTFS names, and handles permissions.

  • Print Server for Macintosh (also called MacPrint) which lets all network users send print jobs to a spooler on the computer running Services for Macintosh and continue working; they don't have to wait for their print jobs to finish.

  • AppleTalk protocol is the layer of AppleTalk Phase 2 protocols that delivers data to its destination on the network.
