Installing a New Child Domain

Use the following procedures as necessary to install a new child domain. These procedures apply to Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2:

To avoid application compatibility problems, verify that the domain naming master operations master role is hosted on a domain controller that runs either Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, or Windows Server 2008 R2 before you begin. • If you are installing the first Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2 domain controller in the forest, run the adprep /forestprep command. For more information, see Prepare a Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003 Forest Schema for a Domain Controller That Runs Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2
  
  
• Install a new domain, using one of the following three methods:
  
  
  • Installing a New Child Domain by Using the Graphical User Interface (GUI)
    
    
  • Installing a New Windows Server 2008 Child Domain by Using the Command Line
    
    
  • Installing a New Windows Server 2008 Child Domain by Using an Answer File
