Streaming Media Services Role Overview

The Streaming Media Services role in the Windows Server® 2008 R2 operating system includes the following role services that you can use to configure and manage a Windows Media server:

  • Windows Media Server. Provides support for delivering digital media content to clients across a network using Microsoft® Windows Media® Services 2008.

  • Web-based Administration. Provides support for administering a Windows Media server remotely using a Web browser.

  • Logging Agent. Provides support for logging statistics from clients that receive multicast broadcast or advertising content from a Windows Media server.
