Pause or Resume an Outgoing Queue

Updated: June 25, 2007

Applies To: Windows Server 2008

You can use this procedure to pause or resume an outgoing Message Queuing queue. Pause the operation of an outgoing queue to postpone the sending of messages from that queue to the corresponding destination queue.

Membership in the local Administrators group, or equivalent, is the minimum required to complete this procedure.

  1. Click Start, point to Run, type compmgmt.msc, and press ENTER to display the Computer Management MMC console.

  2. In the console tree, right-click the applicable queue.

    Where?

    • Computer Management/Services and Applications/Message Queuing/Outgoing Queues/YourOutgoingQueue

  3. Point to All Tasks.

  4. Click Pause. Or, to resume the operation of the queue, click Resume.

  • You can also pause the operation of all outgoing queues by taking Message Queuing offline from the network. For more information, see Additional references.

  • The icons of outgoing queues that are offline are marked by an X on a circular red background in the Computer Management MMC console tree.

  • This task can be performed only by using the Computer Management MMC console.
