To set up the Windows Media Center PC to work with a Media Center Extender, the PC must be configured and services must be started.

Resolve

Configure non-Windows firewalls

This event reports that there are non-Windows firewalls that may prevent the Extender from connecting to the Windows Media Center PC. The installed firewalls are listed and may need to be manually configured before setup can continue.

Verify

You can verify that the Windows Media Center PC is configured correctly using the event log. If the configuration is successful, Event ID 501 with the Mcx2Prov event source and Event ID 400 with the MCX2Dvcs event source will be written to the event log.

To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the local Administrators group, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority.

To verify that Event ID 501 is being written to the event log:

  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Administrative Tools, and then click Event Viewer.
  3. If the User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click Continue.
  4. Expand Application and Services Logs, and then click Media Center.
  5. Look for an event with a Source named MCX2Prov and an Event ID of 501.

To verify that Event ID 400 is being written to the event log:

  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Administrative Tools, and then click Event Viewer.
  3. If the User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click Continue.
  4. Expand Application and Services Logs, and then click Media Center.
  5. Look for an event with a Source named MCX2Dvcs and an Event ID of 400.
