Event ID 107 — Windows Media Center Extender Connectivity

The Windows Media Center Extender connects to the Windows Media Center PC using UDP and TCP protocols.

Disable the unauthorized window

This error can occur when a user interface (UI), such as a dialog box or notification, is trying to appear when Windows Media Center is started on the Extender. This is referred to as an unauthorized window because UI other than the Windows Media Center UI is not allowed to be displayed on the Extender. To determine how to fix this error condition, examine the application reported in the event log message.

The event log message will report one of the following:

• A specific application or executable
• Windows error reporting service
• No application name

A specific application or executable

When a specific application or executable is listed, you should remove or disable the notification service for the application that is listed. For more information about how to remove or disable the notification service for the application, see the application documentation or contact the application manufacturer.

Window error reporting service

If the application that is listed in the error description is the Windows error reporting service, a service has failed causing the disconnection between the Windows Media Center PC and Extender. You should check for application error event ID 100 for error events corresponding to the time of the error message.

To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the local Administrators group, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority.

To check for event ID 100 in the event log:

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Administrative Tools, and then click Event Viewer.
3. If the User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click Continue.
4. Expand Windows Logs, and then click Application.
5. Look for an event with a source named Application Failure and an event ID of 100.

No application name

In some cases, this event does not report the application name. You should take steps to determine which application is causing this error.

To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the local Administrators group, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority.

Determine which application is causing this error:

1. Create a new non-administrator user account on the Windows Media Center PC.
2. Log on using this user account.
3. Watch for hard drive notifications, application prompts, warning messages, or dialog boxes that request user input such as a username and password.
4. Once you determine which UI is being displayed in this session, disable the application or resolve the warnings or notifications
5. Reconnect the Extender.

Verify

Using the event log, you can verify that the Windows Media Center Extender connected to the Windows Media Center PC. If the connection is successful, Event ID 113 with the McrMgr event source will be written to the event log.

To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the local Administrators group, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority.

To verify that Event ID 113 is being written to the event log:

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Administrative Tools, and then click Event Viewer.
3. If the User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click Continue.
4. Expand Application and Services Logs, and then click Media Center.
5. Look for an event with a Source named McrMgr and an Event ID of 113.
