Quota Minifilter Driver Integrity

Updated: January 27, 2011

Applies To: Windows Server 2008

For quota enforcement to work, the quota minifilter driver must be working properly, and it must be correctly attached to the volume. If the quota minifilter driver is experiencing problems, quota scans might fail, and updated quota usage information of volumes and folders will not be available. If the driver cannot attach to the volume, quotas cannot be enforced on that volume.

Events

Event ID Source Message

1

quota

Quota enforcement and management will be unavailable on the system. To reload the minifilter use the filter manager command line tool. If the problem persists, try restarting your system.

2

quota

The quota minifilter driver was unloaded outside the context of a system shutdown. Most likely this occurred as a result of a manual driver shutdown (not recommended) or as part of a quota minifilter driver upgrade. While the driver is unloaded quota enforcement and management will be unavailable on the system. If still unloaded, reload the minifilter using the filter manager command line tool as soon as possible.

3

quota

The quota minifilter driver was detached from volume "%2 (%3)". Most likely this occurred as a result of a manual minifilter detachment (not recommended) or as part of quota configuration or volume backup/restore. While the minifilter is detached, quotas will not be enforced, and quota configuration cannot be changed. Attempt to reattach the minifilter by using the filter manager command line tool or by dismounting and remounting the volume as soon as possible.

6

quota

The quota minifilter driver failed to attach to volume "%2 (%4)" because of an unexpected error. Error status: 0x%3 While the minifilter is detached quota enforcement, and management will be unavailable on the volume. Attempt to reattach the minifilter by using the filter manager command line tool or by dismounting and remounting the volume as soon as possible. If the operation fails, try restarting the system.

7

quota

An unexpected error occurred while the quota minifilter was processing an I/O operation on path "%4" on volume "%2 (%5)". Error status: %3 This may have resulted in inaccurate quota usage. Attempt to reattach the minifilter by using the filter manager command line tool or by dismounting and remounting the volume to initiate a new quota usage scan and validate the configuration. Even then it is still recommended that you review the quota configuration on the volume for misconfigured or missing entries using the management tools.

9

quota

The quota minifilter driver was successfully attached to volume "%2 (%3)" but the quota usage information is possibly out of date, and the volume will be rescanned. This can typically occur as a result of a system crash, quota configuration backup/restore, and volume failover in a cluster. Once the scan completes quotas will function properly.

10

quota

The quota minifilter driver completed rescanning directories under quota management on volume "%2 (%3)". All quota information is up-to-date.

11

quota

A quota scan on directory "%4" on volume "%2 (%5)" failed unexpectedly. Error code: 0x%3 The quota usage for the quota on this directory and any parent directories may be incorrect. The affected quotas may not be properly enforced. You can attempt to initiate a new scan using the quota management command line tool. If the problem persists, reboot your system.

12

quota

The quota minifilter driver completed rescanning directories under quota management on volume "%2 (%3)". Some directories under quota management could not be scanned.

13

quota

The quota minifilter driver successfully attached to volume "%2 (%3)". Quota configuration and usage information is up-to-date and quota monitoring on this volume is now enabled
