Description: The Network Connections service manages objects in Network Connections, where you can view both network and remote connections. This service is responsible for network configuration of client computers. It displays network status in the notification area on the desktop (the area on the taskbar to the right of the taskbar buttons). Configuration parameters can also be accessed through this service.

This service starts automatically when the startup type is Manual and Network Connections is running.

If this service is stopped, client-side configuration for LAN and dial-up or VPN connections are unavailable.

If this service is disabled, the following might result:

  • Connections do not appear in the Connections folder; thus, dial out access is prevented and LAN settings cannot be configured.

  • Other services that use Network Connections to check for network-location-aware Group Policy settings do not function properly.

  • Events pertaining to media connections and disconnections are not received.

  • ICS does not function correctly.

  • The ability to configure incoming connections, wireless settings, or your home network is unavailable.

  • New connections are not created.

  • Any services that explicitly depend on this service will fail to start.
