Give a user permissions to administer a cluster

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

To give a user permissions to administer a cluster

  1. Open Cluster Administrator.

  2. Select the cluster.

  3. On the File menu, click Properties.

  4. On the Security tab, give users permissions to administer the cluster.

Important

  • It is recommended that you allow only trusted personnel to administer a cluster.

Notes

  • To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Administrators group on the local computer, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority. If the computer is joined to a domain, members of the Domain Admins group might be able to perform this procedure. As a security best practice, consider using Run as to perform this procedure.

  • To open Cluster Administrator, click Start, click Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Cluster Administrator.

  • To administer a cluster using Cluster Administrator, you must use an account that is a member of the local Administrators group on each node. The account should be a domain account and can be a member of other groups, such as global groups.

  • You can use an account that is a domain user account or a member of a global group to remotely or locally administer a cluster if you use cluster.exe or cluster scripting tools. For more information, see Cluster and the Microsoft Platform Software Development Kit (SDK).

  • The local Administrator account and local system account always have access to the cluster.

  • When you perform this procedure, the server on which you run Cluster Administrator must run one of the following versions of the operating system and service pack:

    • Windows Server 2003

    • Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 1

    • A product in the Windows 2000 Server family with Service Pack 2 or later

Information about functional differences

  • Your server might function differently based on the version and edition of the operating system that is installed, your account permissions, and your menu settings. For more information, see Viewing Help on the Web.
