To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Administrators group on the local computer, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority. If the computer is joined to a domain, members of the Domain Admins group might be able to perform this procedure. As a security best practice, consider using Run as to perform this procedure.
To open a Control Panel item, click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click the appropriate icon.
An H.323 gatekeeper serves as the central point for all calls within its zone of control. Gatekeepers perform address translation, admissions control, bandwidth control, and zone management functions. In addition, gatekeepers can perform call control, call authorization, bandwidth management, and call management functions.
If you select the Use H.323 gatekeeper check box, any gateway and proxy settings that are specified in the Configure H.323 Service Provider dialog box will not be used.
To use an H.323 gatekeeper, you must register with the gatekeeper by specifying a valid telephone number, account name, or both. Registering with a gatekeeper allows you to receive calls at this computer. If you are not sure which telephone number or account name to use to register with the H.323 gatekeeper, contact your telephony administrator or service provider.
