Defining Application Deployment Project Scope and Objectives

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

The fundamental objective of any application compatibility testing and deployment project is to successfully deploy applications that are compatible with the new operating system. To plan your application deployment project, you must first define the project scope and objectives. To do this, you need to conduct an inventory of the software currently in use in your organization, and then analyze this information to determine the constraints and risks of the compatibility testing project. You can use this information to begin creating the deployment project plan.

Figure 3.3 illustrates when this step occurs in the application compatibility testing process.
