Updated: April 8, 2004

The goal of this paper is to present an overview of the effort and infrastructure that might be required to enable varying levels of collaboration among multiple forests that have domain controllers that are running Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Server or Microsoft® Windows Server™ 2003 operating systems. This paper enumerates the scenarios in which a multiforest environment might be necessary or desirable and analyzes the consequences of such an environment on the total cost of ownership of the enterprise.
