Best practices for configuring and using Microsoft Services for NFS

Use the correct utilities to administer Microsoft Services for NFS.

You cannot use Microsoft Services for Network File System (NFS) or command-line utilities to administer earlier versions of Microsoft Services for NFS. Also, you cannot use earlier versions of Microsoft Services for NFS or command-line utilities to administer newer versions of Microsoft Services for NFS.

You can use Microsoft Services for NFS to administer NFS components on a remote computer if both computers are running a Windows Server 2003 R2 operating system.

Open firewall ports.

Microsoft Services for NFS requires several ports, which must be open on Windows Firewall and other firewalls. When prompted, make sure you allow Microsoft Services for NFS components.
