Modify the Default MS DTC Resource in a Failover Cluster

Applies To: Windows Server 2008

The first Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MS DTC) resource that is added to a failover cluster becomes the default MS DTC resource for the failover cluster. If you are creating more than one MS DTC resource in a failover cluster, it might be necessary to modify the default MS DTC resource. You can use this procedure to modify the default MS DTC resource in a failover cluster.

Membership in Administrators, or equivalent, is the minimum required to complete this procedure. Review details about using the appropriate accounts and group memberships at Local and Domain Default Groups (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=83477).

To modify the default MS DTC resource in a failover cluster

  1. Open the Component Services snap-in.

To open Component Services, click Start. In the search box, type dcomcnfg, and then press ENTER.

  2. In the console tree, click My Computer.

  3. On the Action menu, click Properties.

  4. Click the MSDTC tab.

  5. In Cluster default coordinator resource name, select a different cluster DTC to use as the default coordinator.

  6. Click Refresh, and then click OK.

Note

For clustered MS DTC resources to work over a network, you must also configure Windows Firewall to enable a firewall exception for the DTC. For more information, see Enable Firewall Exceptions for MS DTC.
