Mailboxes

You can use the Microsoft Connector for POP3 Mailboxes to download e-mail from POP3 mailboxes from the Internet to corresponding Exchange mailboxes. Exchange will then deliver the e-mail to the corresponding Exchange user mailbox.

Column heading name Description of column

User name

Displays the name used to log on to the POP3 mailbox account at your Internet service provider (ISP). Your ISP provides this information.

E-mail server

Displays the fully qualified host name or IP address of the POP3 server at your ISP. For example, the fully qualified host name could be the server name of your e-mail server followed by its registered Internet domain name, such as ServerName.msn.com. Your ISP provides this information.

Mailbox type

Displays whether e-mail from your POP3 mailbox will be delivered to one Exchange mailbox or distribution group through a user mailbox or to multiple Exchange mailboxes through a global mailbox.

Exchange mailbox

Displays the user mailbox account or distribution group in Exchange.

Note
This column only applies to user mailboxes.

You can perform the following actions for POP3 mailbox accounts.

Action Purpose

Add

Click to add a POP3 mailbox at your ISP from which you will download e-mail to Exchange.

Edit

Click to modify the account information for the selected POP3 mailbox.

Remove

Removes the selected POP3 mailbox. The account will be deleted from the POP3 mailbox accounts listing, and you will no longer be able to download POP3 e-mail from this account.

Note
If a mailbox is not currently defined for the connector, the Microsoft Connector for POP3 Mailboxes service is disabled. If you add a new POP3 mailbox, the service is restarted.
