To Install RMS with Service Pack 1

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

To perform this procedure, you must be logged on locally to the administration Web site with a domain user account that is a member of the Administrators group. As a security best practice, consider using Run as to perform this procedure.

The computer on which you are installing RMS must either be a member server in a domain or a domain controller. You cannot deploy RMS on a stand-alone server in a workgroup.

Important

Do not provision RMS on any other servers until you have completed both the installation and provisioning of the first server in the root cluster. For instructions, see "To Provision the First Server in the Root Cluster," "To Provision the First Server in a Licensing-only Cluster," or "To Add a Server to a Cluster" later in this subject.

Important

RMS with SP1 can be installed on a server that is currently running the previous version of RMS. However, if you have decommissioned RMS, RMS must be completely removed using Add or Remove Programs before attempting to install RMS with SP1.
