Virus scanner events can occur when a document is scanned while downloading from the SharePoint site or while uploading to the SharePoint site. Virus scanner events can also occur when someone attempts to clear infected documents or when the virus scanner attempts to start or stop. Event types can be Information, Warning, or Error.

When configuring the virus scanner, you can specify:

  • How frequently the virus scanner should scan the documents stored in the document libraries and lists and whether you need the virus scanner to clean the infected documents.

  • How long the virus scanner should run before it times out. If server response time is slow while scanning, you might want to decrease the number of seconds.

  • The number of execution threads on the server that the virus scanner uses. If server response time is slow while scanning, you need to decrease the number of threads allowed for virus scanning.

For more information about configuring the virus scanner, see Configure antivirus settings.

In certain scenarios, if a virus scanner is installed to the front-end Web servers, the events shown in the following table are logged.
