Configuring Audio Conferencing for Communicator Web Access

[This is preliminary documentation and is subject to change. Blank topics are included as placeholders.]

The 2007 R2 version of Communicator Web Access supports audio conferencing. Communicator Web Access connects the user’s telephone to the public switched telephone network (PSTN) and then initiates calls to other conference participants by working with the Audio/Video Conferencing Server included with Office Communications Server 2007 R2. Communicator Web Access users can initiate audio conferences from the Contact list, in an open Conversation window, or in a desktop sharing session as long as there are at least two other participants. Communicator Web Access can also receive and control audio if an incoming call is focus-based.

If you have deployed the Mediation Server and media gateway required to support calls to the public switched telephone network (PSTN), and enabled Enterprise Voice for Communicator Web Access users, no additional configuration is required to support audio conferencing. However, if you have not deployed Enterprise Voice or if you want conference participants who do not have an account in your organization to be able to initiate audio conferencing with Communicator Web Access users, you must configure static routes. You must also configure a static route on each pool for each domain that will support audio conferencing.

To configure a static route for audio conferencing

  1. Log on to the computer that is running the Office Communications Server administrative tools as a member of the Administrators group and the RTCUniversalServerAdmins group or as a member of the Administrators group and a member of a trustee group to which Office Communications Server 2007 R2 server administration permissions have been delegated.

  2. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Office Communications Server 2007 R2 (Beta).

  3. In the console tree, expand the forest node.

  4. Expand Enterprise pools, and then right-click the pool in which Communicator Web Access is installed.

  5. Point to Properties, and then click Front-End Properties.

  6. Click the Routing tab, and then click Add.

  7. Under Matching URI, do the following:

    • In Domain, type the domain that hosts Communicator Web Access users who will use this static route to create audio conferences.
    • Select the Phone URI check box.
  8. Under Next hop, do the following:

    • Click FQDN, and then type the FQDN of the Mediation Server.
    • Click Transport, and then click TLS.
    • Click Port, and then type the Mediation Server SIP listening port, 5061 by default.
  9. When you are finished, click OK.
