Autoconv

Applies To: Windows 7, Windows Server 2000, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008 R2 with SP1, Windows Vista, Windows XP

Converts file allocation table (FAT) and FAT32 volumes to the NTFS file system, leaving existing files and directories intact at startup after Autochk runs. Volumes converted to the NTFS file system cannot be converted back to FAT or FAT32.

Remarks

You cannot run Autoconv on the command-line. This will only be run at startup, if set through Convert.exe.

Autoconv.exe is the WinXP/Vista version of the original CONVERT command. <br />Autoconv is used to convert FAT and HPFS volumes to NTFS upon initial setup or the next system boot. <br />When initialized this process runs after autochk.exe and CHKDSK complete successfully in the system boot sequence, before the operating system is completely loaded.<br /><br />
