Install a Certificate Manually During Device Installation

Applies To: Windows Server 2008

You can use this procedure to add a certificate to the Trusted Publishers certificate store when you install a device driver. After you finish this procedure, driver packages that were signed by using that certificate are considered trusted, and will be accepted by the computer without additional user interaction.

Membership in the local Administrators group, or equivalent, is the minimum required to complete this procedure. Review the details in "Additional considerations" in this topic.

  2. When Windows attempts to validate the driver package and discovers it is signed by a certificate that is not yet in the Trusted Publishers certificate store, Windows displays the following dialog box:

  1. To place the certificate in the Trusted Publishers certificate store, check Always trust software from "Publisher Name."

  2. Click Install to complete the device driver installation.
