Troubleshooting Access Control Problems

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

The problems that typically occur with the Windows access control system are problems with user access to files and folders.

Share permissions are set on folders only and apply to folders that have been shared on a file server or computer. NTFS permissions apply to discs that are formatted with the NTFS file system. NTFS permissions can be applied on local files and folders and shared folders.
