Windows XP Display Driver Model

Applies To: Windows Server 2008

The Windows XP Display Driver Model (XPDM) is the display driver model used in the Windows XP and Windows 2000 operating systems. XPDM device drivers can be used in Windows Vista and Windows Server "Longhorn" operating systems, but cannot be used to enable the advanced features of Windows Vista, such as the Aero desktop theme.

Aspects

The following is a list of all aspects that are part of this managed entity:

Name Description

Display Driver Timeout Detection

Windows can detect when the graphics hardware or a Windows XP Display Driver Model (XPDM) device driver take longer than expected to complete an operation. When this happens, Windows collects diagnostic information about the timeout condition, and prepares a report that you can send to Microsoft. These reports are analyzed and used to assist in creating updates for Windows that fix reported issues.

Display Driver Timeout Detection and Recovery to VGA

Windows can detect when the graphics hardware or the Windows XP Display Driver Model (XPDM) device driver take longer than expected to complete an operation. When this happens in an XPDM device driver under some circumstances, the device driver cannot recover, and Windows starts the VGA-compatible device driver so you can see the desktop.
