To view the POST status and errors

Depending on the remote computer's hardware configuration, one or more of the following approaches can help the computer complete the power-on self test (POST).

For all of these options, you must configure the remote computer's firmware or service processor, if one is present, to redirect the POST. You will then be able to view the progress of the POST. For more information, see to your hardware manufacturer's documentation.

  • Connect to the remote computer's service processor, if one is present, and restart the computer.

  • If a service processor is present, and the out-of-band tools are available, perform diagnostic procedures using the service processor's out-of-band tools.

  • Use a power switch or uninterruptible power supply (UPS) with remote computer management capabilities, if one is present, to restart the remote computer.

Note

  • Windows Server 2003 operating systems cannot start if the remote computer stops responding before completing the POST.
