To create a scope

  1. Open Authorization Manager.

  2. In the console tree, right-click the application within which you want to create the scope, and then click New Scope.

    • Authorization Manager/Authorization store/Application

  3. In the New Scope dialog box, in Name, type a name for the scope.

  4. (Optional) In Description, type a description for the scope, and then click OK.

Important

  • The scope name must be recognized by the application, and the application must resolve the name at the time of the access check. Following are some examples of scope names: "*.txt", "C:\temp", and "Computers in Sales Department." The scope name must contain only printable characters. It must contain at most 65536 characters, and it must be unique (that is, it cannot match the name of another scope currently used by the application).

Notes

  • To open Authorization Manager, click Start, click Run, and then type: azman.msc

  • To perform this procedure, you need to use an authorization store that contains an application. For more information, see Related Topics.
