Moving mobile computers between sites

Windows Server 2003 family computers can be moved to other Windows Server 2003 family sites. When you move a computer to a new site, Message Queuing automatically detects the domain controllers in its new site and uses them for information services. It then updates the directory service with the new site in which the computer resides. After the new site is established, all messages that were sent to the computer while it was disconnected are automatically rerouted from the previous site to the new site. Whenever the computer connects at the new site, its messages are routed directly to it at that site. If the computer is a Message Queuing routing server, it automatically recovers its full functionality in the new site.

A Windows Server 2003 family computer that uses an MSMQ 1.0 site controller as an information server is not capable of automatically revealing its new site. In this case, you can provide the name of the new site either before disconnecting the computer from the network or after reconnecting to the network. Selecting a new site enables your computer to connect to the closest controller server and thus optimizes access to the MQIS database. If you specify the new site before disconnecting from the network, messages sent to the computer while it is disconnected are routed directly to the new site while the computer is en route. If the computer's new site is not specified, Message Queuing will attempt to use a site controller in its former site. Any message sent to that computer will be routed to its previous site. This applies only to Message Queuing independent clients and Message Queuing servers without routing enabled. Message Queuing servers that have routing enabled (provide routing services to clients) are not supported in an environment of MSMQ 1.0 site controllers.
