Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 with SP1
Once you have verified that no users are accessing your Web site, you can stop the World Wide Web Publishing Service (WWW service) on your source computer. You can then migrate your Web sites to the target server.
Credentials: Membership in the Administrators group on the local computer.
As a security best practice, log on to your computer using an account that is not in the Administrators group, and then use the Run as command to run IIS Manager as an administrator. At the command prompt, type runas /user:administrative_accountname mmc %systemroot%\system32\inetsrv\iis.msc.
Open Administrative Tools, and then click Services.
In the Services pane, double-click World Wide Web Publishing Service.
On the Properties page, on the General tab under Service Status, click the Stop button, and then click OK.
Open Control Panel, and then double-click Services.
On the Services page, click World Wide Web Publishing Service, and then click the Stop button, and then click Close.
