Set Group Policy Management Console user interface options

To set Group Policy Management Console user interface options

  1. Open Group Policy Management.

  2. On the View menu, click Options.

  3. Choose a type of view option from the list below:

Columns
  1. In the Options dialog box, click the Columns tab.

  2. Select a table from the Table location drop down box.

  3. In Columns displayed in this order, add a check next to each column that should be displayed.

  4. Select a column and use the Move Up and Move Down buttons to set the order of columns.

  5. Repeat steps 2 through 4 for each table in the Table location drop down box you want to change, and then click OK.

  6. You can optionally check Save customized column order and sizes to make column order and size selections persistent. This setting is checked by default.

Reporting
  1. In the Options dialog box, click the Reporting tab.

  2. Select one of the following options.

    • To specify that Group Policy Managemetn Console (GPMC) should use the local adm files,select Default. If an .adm file is not found locally, and then GPMC will look in the Group Policy objects (GPO) folder in the sysvol folder.

    • To specify a custom location that takes precedence over the default locations, select Custom, and then enter the location where .adm files are stored.

      Notes

    • Group Policy Management Console (GPMC) uses files with an .adm extension to display the friendly names of policy settings when generating HTML reports for GPOs, Group Policy Modeling, and Group Policy Results. These options let you control the location from which GPMC reads these .adm files.

    • When searching for a given .adm file, GPMC uses the .adm file that is first found based on the search order described above, regardless of time stamp.

    • If you add or modify an .adm file in an existing location, you need to restart GPMC in order for GPMC to pick up the change in the .adm file when displaying HTML reports. (You do not need to restart GPMC if you switch between the Default and Custom option buttons, or change the custom location used for .adm files, and click OK.)

    • GPMC never copies the .adm file to the sysvol folder, unlike the Group Policy Object Editor.

General
  1. In the Options dialog box, click the General tab.

  2. Select from the following options.

    • To display only forests or domains with two-way trusts to the user's domain, select Enable trust checking. This setting is checked by default.

    • To show domain name controller names in parentheses after each domain in GPMC, select Show domain controllers after domain names.

    • To display a confirmation dialog box to distinguish between GPOs and GPO links each time a GPO or GPO link is selected in GPMC, select Show confirmation dialog box to distinguish between GPOs and GPO links. This setting is checked by default.
