Application Removal Issues

Applies To: Windows 7, Windows Vista

There are several known issues with the application removal process; the Compatibility Administrator addresses these issues through compatibility fixes and compatibility modes.

Fix Name Symptom Fix Description

DelayShowGroup

You receive an error message stating "<DirName> refers to a location that is unavailable" after you remove an application.

Delays the ShowGroup Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) command. If an application resumes and calls the DeleteGroup function before the group is visible, it can cause this error. The DirName refers to a location that is unavailable and can be a hard disk on this computer or on a network

LUARedirectReg_Cleanup

You receive an error message stating that the registry entries cannot be removed during uninstallation.

Removes the registry entries redirected by the LUARedirectReg compatibility fix. The application removal program uses this compatibility fix if the application installation program uses the LUARedirectReg fix.

LUARedirectFS_Cleanup

Files remain after uninstalling an application.

Removes the files redirected by the LUARedirectFS compatibility fix.

MoveWinInitRenameToReg

Files remain after uninstalling an application.

Intercepts calls made to ExitWindowsEx, waits for the DLL_PROCESS_DETACH function call, and then moves the contents of the Wininit.ini [RENAME] section to the registry, by using the MoveFileEx function.
