Computer Must Be Restarted to Complete the Agent Installation
Archived content. No warranty is made as to technical accuracy. Content may contain URLs that were valid when originally published, but now link to sites or pages that no longer exist.

A status of delayed might be reported if a computer needs to be restarted to complete the agent installation. Computers must be restarted if any files need to be renamed or deleted to complete the installation. Also, if there are pending file changes from a previous installation of software other than MOM, MOM requires that the computer be restarted as an added measure of security. Additionally, computers running Windows NT must be restarted if system files need to be updated.

If the agent computer must be restarted, the Agent Manager logs an event 21116, 21118, or 21169. You can view a list of these events by navigating to the following location in the MOM Administrator console: Monitor\Public Views\Microsoft Operations Manager\Agent Managers\Agents Requiring a Reboot to Complete Installation.

You can also use the Agent Manager Events spreadsheet to view a list of computers that need to be restarted. This spreadsheet sorts the events by computer name and filters out duplicate events, which simplifies the view.

For more information about computers that need to be restarted, see the "Identifying Computers That Require a Restart" section later in this chapter.
