Install CMAK

The Connection Manager Administration Kit (CMAK) is an optional component that is not installed by default. You must install CMAK to create connection profiles that your users can install to access remote networks.

You must use a computer running a version of Windows with the same processor architecture as the clients on which you want to install the profile. A 32-bit connection profile can be created on and installed on a 32-bit version of Windows only. A 64-bit connection profile can be created on and installed on a 64-bit version of Windows only.

Membership in the local Administrators group, or equivalent, is the minimum required to complete this procedure.

Use the following procedure to install CMAK on a computer that is running the 64-bit version of Windows Server 2008 R2. Profiles that you create with this version of CMAK can be used only on computers that are running a 64-bit version of Windows. You cannot install CMAK onto a computer running a 64-bit version of Windows 7.

To install CMAK on the 64-bit version of Windows Server 2008 R2
  1. Click Start, click Administrative Tools, and then click Server Manager.

  2. In the navigation pane, right-click Features, and then click Add Features.

  3. In the Features list, select Connection Manager Administration Kit, and then click Next.

  4. On the Confirm Installation Selections page, click Install.

  5. On the Installation Results page, click Close.

Use the following procedure to install CMAK on a computer that is running the 32-bit version of Windows 7. Profiles that you create with this version of CMAK can be used only on computers that are running a 32-bit version of Windows.

To install CMAK on the 32-bit version of Windows 7
  1. Click Start, click Control Panel, click Programs, and then click Turn Windows Features on or off.

  2. In the features list, select RAS Connection Manager Administration Kit feature, and then click OK.
